Carpet/Flooring
« on: August 01, 2008, 12:33:31 PM »
Heya guys,

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what type of flooring would best work. I am thinking probablly deep red/burgondy carpet, but i dont want it too wooly, i have seen some sellers but i dont know what "pile/Plush" mean as such, also what needs to be laid ie: sound proofing etc??

Kirk, if you get a synthetic carpet it won't rot or smell when it gets wet. Wool will do both.
I have occasionally laid synthetic carpet in boats.... never wool.
Funny old life.

Just ask around for "marine grade carpet" - the stuff used in boats is what you want

Go to Bias boating or Whitworths and get marine carpet from them. Failing that go to any decent boat shop.

source your local motor trimmer he'll advise you when you give him a better idea of what you want, you can buy car carpet by the metre off the roll , it will be wax backed and with a good heat gun and some patience you can mold it to irregular shapes etc,

PILE is the "cut "or style of carpet.  It come as a plush (carpet with a haircut :), gives a nice luxurious feel) loop as it says lots a little loops.......bit more durable, not good for the wifes knees ;). Marine are excellent for work vans and wet areas, if you got kayak's etc, all pricey but with good insulation can make ya BEDWAR comfortable warm and most of all quiet....enjoy!
Can I go play now...?

Bunnings do marine carpet in lots of colours at their bigger stores in WA, marine carpet is probably my best bet as it is good for rusty leaky vans.
cheers
