Electric fuel pump

I want to replace the old fuel pump on my 186 with an electric one.
Would this beast be suitable.....

If I don`t start the `ol girl for a few days I have to wind it over quite a bit to get the fuel up to the carb.
I figure with an electric one , problem solved .  Yes??? - No???
There is a hell-o-va variety of pumps ( and prices ) to choose from . What should I be looking for if the ebay one`s not suitable?
Any assist much appreciated.

that ebay one is perfect, really your looking for something low pressure 3-6 psi is in this range, from what I've seen most carbys can't hold back more than 5-6 psi of pressure, so you should be right with that.

I cannot speak for the quality of it long term, but its definitely the specs required for a carby electric pump.

Bob, my two cents worth .... you really don't want to skimp on the quality of the pump that you buy, especially if you are planning to do rural trips. I'd be looking for one from a reputable manufacturer with a built in recirculating feature. I'm using a Carter on mine. Was in the region of about $70 from memory.

I ordered the `el cheapo` one before I got back to Buga . Will have to wait and see how it performs .
Maybe I could get by with a bulb pump thingy off my outboard between the tank & pump  .

Bob, just remember to mount the pump at the lower end of the fuel line as otherwise it won't pump fuel.

Do these pumps have a pressure cut-off switch or something inside or are they working the whole time the ignition is turned on?
Would a in-line filter be best before or after the pump?

hey posty bob, just my 2 cents....
I had a cj5 jeep, when iconverted to electric fuel pump I grabbed 2 clear in line filters from a boat shop, one before the pump, 1 up front. Also included a speco fuel pressure regulator, worked a treat!

I learned the hard way to have a filter BEFORE the fuel pump,,, 100 miles from home in my ford 300E van and the pump blocked with tank turds. 
I then stripped the threads on the fuel pump when I cleaned it out. Eventually made it home 6 hours later.

Once bitten, twice shy!!

Fitted the `el cheapo `elec pump and it seems to work fine ( for now  ).
I wired it into my ignition circuit but am thinking it might be better using a seperate circuit with a `secret` switch .  That way , if the `ol girl gets pinched it`ll only go as far as the fuel in the bowl will let it  .
I left the original mechanical pump in with the inlet connected to the outlet so its pumping away merrily on it`s own.  Should this be a no-no ?  The way it`s set up, if the elec one dies on me it`s an easy swap-over .

Bob, I would run a new wire & fuse to the pump as they can pull big amps.
And yes, I have a separate (hidden) switch as an anti-theft device
First rule of electrics (just made this up  ) if in doubt, upgrade!
