But I thought a "new car" only had to meet the emission standards for 5 years.... or is this an urban myth. Being in SA, we don't have annual inspections, so I don't know what they check.

yer that's a good point to make that I forgot to mention any engine on straight LPG doesn't need to install the pollution gear.

You would still have to meet any other requirements though, not sure what would apply to a Bedford though.
