Seat Belts

Finally got my front seat belts sorted. So I thought I'd post the information up incase it helps somebody else who wants to upgrade thier seat belts.

We decided to go with the buckle that is bolted to the floor via a webbing belt instead of the stalk, because we intend to put the swivel bases in under the front seats at some point and decided that the stalks would get in the way when swiveling the seats around. I'll get some little brakets made up to hold the seat belt buckles in place on the sides of the seats when the seats are in thier normal position. We also went for the fixed length of webbing on the buckled instead of the adjustable length.

The buckle we went for has a fixed length of 500mm. The standard length of seat belt is 3.2m. I measured the minimum legnth that we needed to be 3.4m, so the long belt needs to be ordered.

This seat belt mounts to the Beddy using the vans original mounting points making engineering a snap! (If you even get picked up on it, cause it'll look pretty standard when done) The only thing you will need to get made up is a right angle bracket to mount the inertia real and lower anchor point to the mounting point in the floor. I can post a pick of mine if anyone is interested.

3 colours are available. Black, Capachino and Grey. We went for grey to match the interior.

Part Number is - K1980L

For Grey it's - K1980LGY

For Capachino it's - K1980LC

Don't forget the 'L' at the end or the seat belt will be too short

This seat belt is by Klippan who make all the seat belts for FORD and Holden and most if not all other cars made in this country so there are totally Ozi and NZ approved!

If you decide to go for the belt with the stalk so it stands up by itself instead of the webbing. Then I'd suggest going for the longest stalk which is 450mm. Don't remember the part number for this sorry.

I put a double seat on the passenger side.  How easy do you reckon is it to get a "webbing to double buckle that reaches from the floor up to the seat.

Are they expensive new?  I have toyota hilux on one side and Bedford original on the other, neither would probably pass a RWC as the bedford is fairly worn out and the retractor doesnt always retract.  The hilux double buckle is too low to the floor so I bolted some chain to the floor and to the buckles (up the inside of the old bedford seat mount), it is safe enough i reckon but might cause me grief if it is spotted.

Does anyone know of second hand belts that would be the right length for double landcruiser seat on the passenger side and a single on the drivers  on the original bedford mounts?

If they don't retrack properly, then it depends on who roadworthies the van cause they can nock it back if they want. I'll have a look through what Ive got and let you know, cause I got heaps of different types of belts from a variety of vehicles. Some are new and some second hand. I would think that Klippan would make a double type belt since they supply most of the vehicles we (some people do anyway) buy new. A new belt will cost around the $150 mark. I was asking about one the other day that had the buckle on the stalk and it was about $126 from memory.

In NZ you can buy after market belts, the place was in Avondale (Auckland) but have moved, sorry not sure where, think it was penrose. I can't even remember the name of the place now - autolive or something. they were $125 a set

I recently had my seat belts installed on the van. Had a Mobile Seat Belt company come to do it. All took an hour to complete, and is perfect. Fairly pricey though, means I won’t be questioned about them when the cert happens, as they use all the original mounting positions & were installed by a pro. See below.

You're such a legend Joel! Yeah that's how I will be mounting mine (except I'm doing it myself), by using the original mounting holes getting a cert should be just straight through no questions. I however went for the buckle with a 500mm leghth of seat belt that then bolts to the floor instead of the stalk like you got there. I'll install one on Sunday and post some pics here. When I get the all seats certifed early next year (fingures crossed) I'll post pics of the whole rig.

Hey Busy, you're right about Autoliv. That is the name of the company that makes all our seat belts, both NZ and Oz. They are also known as Klippan. I think Autoliv is the parent company and Klippan is the seat department or something of the like. Anyway their main office is in NZ. I'm always talkin to one of you fellas whenever I ring.
