My Monaro Collection.
« on: December 31, 2010, 11:52:27 AM »
Here is the closest i think i will ever get to having a monaro. This is my 1:18 diecast collection. Now if i can just get a beddy collection like this i would be a happy camper. This is the closest i can get, a chev van.

If only I'd known what they're worth today...

At least the parts went into a Bedford  :)

Hey banksx2, mate the HG,HT,HK monaros are the pricey models, i have seen them as just a shell, nothing else, and sell for $15,000-00. As we are always saying on here, their only worth what people are prepared to pay, and when it comes to a monaro, people are prepared to pay the earth for one. To date an original bathurst monaro, HT i think it was, sold for $800,000-00, just shy of an XY phase 3 that sold for 1 million dollars. The HQ and later you can get for under $35,000-00, just. In the case of the limited edition model i want, there were only about 700 built in total in 78, so they are harder to get. Lets hope these guys in brissy decide to do the replica monaros, and we can all get our hands on an icon. To date i have missed out on 4 chances to get a monaro, i saw one on a tow truck a couple of days ago, HQ. Oh well i have my models for now.  ;D ;D

G'day

A story from a couple of years ago.
There was a HK Monaro Bathurst Special sitting in a shed just out of Dubbo that just about everybody had forgotten about. An old lady had bought it new to tow her horse float but didn't use it much so it sat in the shed. Low mileage and in original condition, it still had the dealer sticker on the back window. The dealer still had the paperwork for it in his files.

A local bloke sweet talked it out of her $28,000. Sold it for $54,000 and bragged about it until the bloke he sold it to sold it for $120,000.

There are still ones sitting around. I have a HQ Monaro in my back paddock ( belongs to a mate) that will be going on ebay soon starting at $1000. It is fairly stuffed though.
The problem I have is that most of my stories end with... and that is why I am not allowed to go back there!

I've got a better story for you. My dad used to work up north on the stations and they only got paid when they went to the city, sometimes every 12 months. Fully cashed up. Now the HG Monaro had just come out and he fell in love with it but he needed a 4 door (because of me) so he asked them about a 4 door version and they told him that they were not available, my dad asked if he could order one, the sales guy said yes but..... it would cost about 4 times the amount of a Monaro, no probs my dad said and handed over a huge wad of CASH and a Yellow "special order" 4 door Monaro was on its way, true to their word it arrved, a four door sedan with all the Monaro bits, even the I.D. Plate was stamped 4 Door Monaro, I wish I knew what happened to it, all I have is a very small crappy photo(remember those)of it at Scarborough Beach carpark
Happy to be living past my "use by date" I was given 6-12 months to live in August 2007
