how much for a respray

hey guys,

i am looking at getting a white van, while i love the van i hate the colour.

for anyones experience how much would it cost for a full respray from white to black.

i dont even mind if the engine bay isnt done.

any help on a price would be awesome

Hi All, mate I have just had a quote to have mine done, SWB, and this guy quoted me about $2000-00, and that was for a really good custom paint, paint job, not a standard off the shelf black, not that mine will be black but it will be darker then the primer you can see in my album. His quote was for a show quality paint job. Hope this is a guide.

2000 is pretty cheap i recon, if there is any body repairs needed it will be mre obviously. and it all depends on what paint you want to use and how cheap you wanna do it.

Hey Guys, that $2000 did not include bodywork, that is just painted and finished. The plan is to do all the custom sheet metal, grill, flares so on in my workshop at home here, then load my baby onto a tow truck and run it down to the gold coast where the guy will paint it in his workshops. When I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago he was working on Elenore, a 68 fastback mustang, building a replica from the movie gone in 60secs, ground up for a coast millionair.

George for that cheap I'm imagining that you did all the prep work yourself, if so how difficult would you say it would be for some one with very limited car knowledge to do.

Hi Adam, mate I am a double amputee in a wheelchair, and like you I to have limited skill, I can design and I know what needs to happen to do a job to avoid being conned, but no, I am getting the same guy to do all my custom work, I just devided the 2 jobs, quote on custom sheet metal work first, then when I win lotto then time to start the paint LOL. I have just got a second beddy grill from my mate, and I am tempted to have a shot at doing my custom grill, I know every step of how to do it, it's that first cut. I have the workshop, the tools just not the courage to make that first cut. YET.

Or just get some scrap metal and play with ideas on how you would do it.

Nothing can replace actual experience, and the only way to get that is to "Nike" it.

There are some old skool rules for ya!
First decide show or go.
Show= rule of thumb is every thing in quarters ie, repairs,mods, prep and paint.
The numbers allways add uo to 10.
So a Show van is going to cost you $10,000.00

So aStreeter will cost ya $6000.00

Now alot guys will argue left or right of those figures.
Some will say its too low and some will say they can do some them selves.
But it averages out at the above figures over time.
Even if you have a mate it will cost you $6g or 10g.
we had this discusion at a van meeting years ago.
I bought it up at a rod club meeting 2 years ago.
I bought it up in the USA at a pickup club meeting 3 years ago.
The thing was that its scary that across all those guys and cars the rule of quarters came into effect.
If your bodys good you spend more on paint.
If your bodys bad you spend more on that and less on paint.
Now the real scary thing is I read about this in a popular mechanics magazine in the seventys for the first time.
Then saw it repeated on a canadian van site in the 80s.

i think your pretty much spot on with those figures, im doing everything myself and it will be very close to 6 grand.

mind you i will not admit that to the miss's even when she does the "you got to be kidding me! do you actually know how much you have spent already" speech.
