Engine cover

I,ve just got around to fitting the engine cover in my Bedmobile and noticed the dipstick and rocker  breather are touching the cover .
Looks like I need some major mods done to it . Should there be some sort of `gasket`between the floor and the cover? I,m thinking about chopping a hole in the cover for easier access to the dipstick anyhow .  How did you folk get around this prob?  ( I have a 186 installed ).

They shouldnt be touching The breather should be at the front of the engine & the dipstick should have a curved piece at the top which faces foward to check the oil from the front Cheers Reid

I have put some wing nuts on the engine cover- comes off in a few seconds. And yes, I have a 186, black head etc.  works a treat.

I meant where the hose attaches to the rocker cover at the back of the engine . Seems to be real close if not touching . I will have to bend the dipstick tube somewhat , at the moment it,s angled sideways towards the motor .

Is this an original engine or one out of a car

According to the engine number it,s from a HR Holden . Around the late 60,s I think .
Is it possible a later cover could solve the prob??

If your van had the old 4 cyl diesel when it was new, the hole in the floor will be slightly smaller and the holden 6 cyl engine will sit up hard
at the back end.....my truck was like that.....the engine covers both look the same but are slightly different. There should also
be a rubber gasket / seal glued to the floor.

My 202 had 2 places to put the breather pipe I had mine in the front one just behind the filler But I got rid of it altogeather pluged the holes with rubber grommets & put a breather type filler lid on it works great Had a look today & there is only about 20mm gap between the back of the rocker cover & the engine cover
