Spam today
« on: December 25, 2008, 11:17:02 AM »
It appears that the spam we received today was due to  some new spam bot software bypassing the registration system in these forums. I have edited the forum code a little so hopefully we wont see any more spam for a while

Fingers crossed.

FYI

Theses are the ips used by the recent spammer:

194.8.74.53
194.8.74.53
194.8.74.53
194.8.75.157

A lot of other forum operators I know actually block all access for the ip range 194.*.*.* to 199.*.*.*
I might think about doing this myself.

the ip range works but bots often use proxies
could also use keyword blocking; use the word viagra  or something and if the word is found in a post on posting it is refused.
dont use minor words, even penis can be innocent - "the penis mighter than the sword" (a space missing, but not inncocent without it)
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

Hey Shane....Just checking with you, I got a couple of notices in my email about some blocked website users. I am guessing that because i am down as a moderator of the buga site that this is just for my info? .Does it require any action on my behalf? Hope your xmas day has gone well mate cheers...john abbott ;D
