Thanks for that ash, i will take a look at your site, and contact you from there. As you can see, at the moment i have set up a set of motor bike controls, but i am designing a set of formula 1 style shift paddle - throttle / brake system, so that at high speed you can keep both hands on the steering wheel. There is a company in sydney selling a set, but they want over a $1000-00 a set, ok for the professional amputee driver, but for the weekend driver, a bit pricey. Tell me ash, is there anywhere here in brissy that i can take my kart and race it ? all the tracks round here are hire tracks, and wont let me take my kart there. I was at Kingston park about a year back, and they set a kart up for me, and talk about heavy, i had to squeese the life out of the brakes, that made for a hairy drive, but awesome, thats when i decided to build my own, and set them to suit myself, but now i can't find a track to race on.

George.

Hi George,
am I reading correct that you are an amputee? I hope that doesnt  offend you asking that. If so, we have dealt with this before and have experience. We had 1 member that lost his left leg so he raced with a hand brake control. We have a guy in NSW that has lost both legs and he has no worries racing. Have a look at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNqIYy46fV0 . Basiclly stop making what you are doing as nobody will want you on there race track as it doesnt comply with any rules etc they have.
My recommendation is to buy a OTK roller (Tonykart, Kosmic, FA Kart, Esprit) in a 30 or 32mm chassis that is no more that about 3 years old. They have a hand brake setup that can be used no problem. A gearbox engine however is out of the question if you want to get on a race track. Best engine for the purpose is called a Rotax Max. About 30hp at the wheels, has a starter motor and easy to look after. Not much different to an auto in a car. That can be done easy and will save you a lot of trouble in the long run.
About 4 months ago we had a guy going through his bucket list as he didnt have long to go. He always wanted to race a kart on a race track. With a lot of Support from the Management at Queensland Raceway, we suited him up and away he went. After doing about 40 odd laps, he came in with a grin wider than a split watermelon. I am sure if you have the right equipment and you can prove to them you can get out of it yourself, you could be racing at Lakeside and Queensland Raceway.

Hi ash, thanks for that you tube clip. Mate no offence taken, after 11yrs i had better learn to deal with it. I have lost both legs and 1 eye, but i have qld drivers licence and drive myself everywhere, and have just finished building a dune buggy with hand controls (my album) but want to get the kart finished.
So far i have designed the hand controls, brake / throttle, just haven't got round to building them. What are we looking at for a Rotax Max engine, i am not looking at pro racing, i just want to take my kart to a track every now and then and cut loose and go home happy.
Do you have a link or photos of an OTK set-up.

Hi guys,
been a bit busy as the racing season is about 1 month away from starting. We have a practice at Lakeside tomorrow morning from 9am to midday.
Restoreid, there is a company in Europe making trailers like that. Seen many of them in 2009 when we were there. Havent found a tow car like that.
George, with the handlebar setup, you will be better going to the bike wreckers to get a hydraulic front brake master cylinder and maybe a matching brake caliper. It will be much easier to mount on your handlebars. A Rotax Max Senior engine package is about $3500.00 new and needs assembly. I have seen them second hand for about $500.00. I have traded one a while ago for $300.00 and parted it out. They make 30hp, rev to 14000rpm and have a starter motor. The clutch takes up at about 7500rpm.
The OTK front brake handle is only good with a steering wheel as you bolt the unit to the steering shaft and the steering wheel to it. Because of the handlebars you will never get it on a race track as they are not safe for karting. If you stumble across anything that you are finding hard, you can ring anytime on 0417769336 and I will help you with it.
I am not sure if there is a Bedford Van Club in Brisbane. I am not sure if any of you are interested about driving around some race tracks in your vans or not. If you are and there were about 15 - 20 or more wanting to do it, it can be done for about 1 - 2 hours early in the morning before a race day. It is behind a pace car but its fast enough for most Beddy Vans to have a cruise around a race track. Can be done at Lakeside or Qld Raceway.

Getting back to the original subject, my 1971 Bedford CFS 350 Chev T400 on Gas owes me $5755.00. It would be hard to do and engine and tranny conversion including approval for that then have to put it on gas as well can cost lots these days. If someone comes up with an offer close to the owed amount, you will be the proud owner. Need to move it on as next vehicle is about to come up for sale.

Got in the Beddy today and started it for the first time in a month. Primed the gas once and started straight away. Being a 1971 model, you can go wild with wheels etc. Will take offers around $5500.00 to see it go to a good home. Has spare rear barn doors that go with it. If you want to come and have a look or make an offer, you can ring me on 0417769336 anytime. I am on Brisbanes northside.

Getting lots of interstate enquiries from South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania. There are some good deals for transporting cars interstate. Best I got to was $445.00 from a Brisbane Depot to an Adelaide depot, $434.00 to a Victorian Depot and Tasmania I gave up on as they started talking 4 figures before the decimal point. Hope my van goes to a good home soon.

Strong enquiries from north and west of Brisbane and Victoria. 1 thing that is a bit weird is that the amount of people that want to buy the 19 inch wheels. So if they are sold in the near future, the price will reduce. I also get a laugh from many mothers that go past and have a smerk on their face. I wonder what they are thinking?
