Hi Everyone

We are the ones selling this Cab on ebay. My father passed away last month and never had the time or money to restore.
A collector has advised us that this was one of 4 made in australia for the fire brigade but did not go into production here as the fire brigade said they were not powerful enough being only a 6 cylinder.

It has a sticker on the inside that says, do not remove - field product 80-V1-01 (I thinks as Im not at the house at the moment)

Does anyone know this history of this vehicle and confirm or deny this? or who maybe be able to give us more info.
We may remove the listing as its not hit the reserve yet until we investigate this further.

We are also told 2 are scapped so its only 1 of 2 left and we believe the sticker means it was the very first one of the 4 made.

If you can, Have a look on ebay, we would love to know more about it..

G'day T

I am the collector you were talking to and I am probably the only one who does know about it.

The auction hasn't ended yet and I am juggling funds to see if I can put a bid on it.

Here is what I know about it.

There were 4 built by a specialist vehicle builder for GMH as a trial run for the NSW Fire brigade. They seated 4 in the back and 3 in the front, however the fireman in uniform were cramped and the truck fitted, with an anti-pollution strangled 202, trimatic, and a standard diff, was underpowered, noisy and slow.
The trucks were sold off at auction in as new condition. They were painted fire engine red and looked very nice with a canvas canopy and wooden drop sides.
BHP Newcastle bought one as a work truck for the High Voltage Department and I drove it when I worked there.
One truck was sold to someone on the North Coast, another to a farmer in the Central West of NSW and the other to someone in Sydney.

After driving the one at the BHP, I tried to buy it but the Steelworks drove vehicles until they stopped and then put them into scrap.
I was told that the one on the North Coast rusted out and was scrapped.
The farmer retired to Wellington where it was seen by myself and others many times. I even have photos of it. I tried to track him down however he parked the truck in his backyard and then died. When his estate was settled the kids took everything to the tip, including the truck, where it was immediately crushed and sent for scrap. I missed it by 3 days.
I have had a dozen people tell me about the one in Sydney being seen about town and then seen in a yard somewhere in the western suburbs but not quiet sure where.

Now we know.
The problem I have is that most of my stories end with... and that is why I am not allowed to go back there!

Cool. Don't know how dad got it. I believe you spoke to my sister Theresa. Do you know what the sticker means? Does this mean it was the first of the 4 made. Good luck. We are leaving on eBay. Hope it goes to someone who will fix it up like dad always wanted

I would get it now but the cost and stuffing around to get it to qld would cost more then the van itself. Maybe one day someone will sell one here in brisy for me.  ??? ??? ???
