Driveline / 173 or 202?
« on: January 27, 2014, 05:27:43 PM »
So the current engine in my van (202) is giving me more dramas and ive had the offer from the old man tohelp me rebuild an engine for it. Ive got the choice between the original 173 that came with it including some nice big holes in the tops of 2 of the pistons or another red 202 (thanks mty). Just wondering if any of you guys have any experience with the old 173 compared to the 202 and any advice on which way would be best to go? was also maybe thinking of even putting the 173 head on the 202, im open to suggestions. (v8 is down the track but not an option right now).
thanks Medlock

For Sale / Barn doors Pair, bonnet hinges, towbar
« on: November 18, 2013, 10:18:02 PM »
I've been clearing out some stuff (missus' orders) so I have a couple of my Bedford spares that came with my van to get rid of. If no one wants them they will just be getting scrapped so free to anyone who comes and gets them (unless of course you feel generous and want to make a donation to the Bedford fund). Located in Seven Hills, SYD. Will probably also have a few other things to add to the post as I go through the boxes.

good set of rear doors all mechanisms work. no key which is why i assume the latch is there.(was like that when i got them). has some minor dints in the bottom corner of the left door not to major

set of original bonnet hinges

as far as i know original tow bar set up (my vans one is not original so may be wrong).

CF Bedford Chat / Commercial vehicle and pre-ADR
« on: September 10, 2013, 02:45:42 PM »
I've been doing some research into the ADR for vehicle modifications and am noticing this statement a lot 'does not apply to commercial or four wheel drive type vehicles such as commercial vans, light trucks, small buses, etc....'.

Does a Bedford count as a 'commercial vehicle'?

The also make reference a lot to requirements for pre-ADR vehicles. My van is one of the weird 77 model (CF 270) transition vans I think that has a mix of CF1 and CF2 parts.

Anyways if its a 77 model does that mean that it is not pre-ADR?

CF Bedford Chat / window louvers?
« on: August 20, 2013, 10:43:15 PM »
Anyone know where you can get a set of rear window louvers for a Bedford? or any idea if the dodge ones would fit? Ive always liked the look of them on vans. I should stop being lazy and go measure the window myself but never know someone on here may have experience with fitting them before.

CF Bedford Chat / Medlock's Van
« on: August 04, 2013, 05:05:42 PM »
Been a while since I've done anything with the van due to bad weather and lack of funds, or made a post. So here's a funny pic I took the other day while driving up the M4 taking the van to our new place in Seven Hills.

Hope that worked first pic post. Of the clock in a Beddy, something is clearly wrong lol

Introduce Yourself / Intro and finally some good news
« on: April 17, 2013, 09:41:27 PM »
Hi fellow bugas, everyone calls me Medlock, been a member of here since just before I bought my beddy in Jan, but thought id hold of on the introduction until id had some progress on fixing it up. (long post inc. sorry!)

Long story short silly me thought I could buy it from SA and drive it back to where I live in the Blue Mountains NSW. Wasn't counting on the blown head gasket, great big holes in the top of 2 of the pistons, a dodge starter motor/ignition wiring and the constant overheating which wasn't helped by the 45 degree heat. Anyway after a new engine (202 red), basically rewiring the ignition system to replace some of the old wires and suit a standard bosch holden starter motor, installing a new barn door window that got smashed on the trip (another long story) and some general tidying up it was finally ready for the blue slip last wk.

Which not surprising it failed... but only due to a few very minor things! Which are now fixed and it'll be going back to pass on Friday so there'll soon be another Beddy on the road in NSW.

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you for creating and maintaining this site, such an awesome Bedford resource. Hasn't been a problem I've come across that hasn't already been answered here, and has definitely helped me greatly with getting my van back on the road. Was a Bedford novice when I first started, with a general mechanical knowledge, now feel like I'm becoming a beddy expert haha. I'm fairly new to all this but have big plans for the big beddy so will keep you all updated with plenty of posts to come, and im sure I will probably need some help from all you bedford veterans at some point.

Look forward to chatting with you all and who know maybe one day meeting some of you, may have to do a road trip south when I get the bed in the back :)
