CF Bedford Chat / Junkyard Wars
« on: October 10, 2009, 08:16:01 AM »
At 6.30 pm on weekdays on ABC 2 there is a show called junyard wars. It is a poor (American) imitation of the previous Scrapheap Challenge (U.K) that they used to have on. Last night (Fri 9/10/09) they had a challenge where they had to make a bulldozer to push cars out of the way which were layed in an obstacle course. One of the competitors modified a CF cab chassis truck with a snow plough on the front and put 2 axles on the back and tank treads. It did really well.

If you missed it, ABC 2 tends to run the series and then repeat it, so no doubt it will come up again.

Grandad.

Re the SA Vauxhall/Bedford Club. They meet the first Wednesday of each month at 8pm in the "Combined Car Clubs" meeting room on Clark Ave Glandore. I am not sure of the exact number in Clark Ave as I haven't got a newsletter handy. I'll try and post exact address before next meeting. If you turn off Cross Rd onto Clark Ave, it is a couple of hundred metres down on the right hand side. You wil see a carpark area and large lawn area with several buildings. There will also no doubt be a few Vauxhalls in the carpark.

BlackBedford, you mentioned that 1981 models were very rare. Did any of them have the metal grill and round headlights. I have attached pic of front.

Thanks for the offers of help guys. I can rewire it ( I am a technician by trade), but the truck is a 2 and a half hour drive away from where I live and if I get a 1 day permit to drive it, I don't want to spend half the day trying to sort out the wiring.

I suppose I can always resort to hand signals.

I haven't bought the Bedford yet. It has a 173 holden motor, and I am trying to ascertain the year. The rego papers say it is a 1981 model, however it has the metal grill and round headlights. The prefix of the engine number suggests 74-76 According to info re holden engines (assuming it is the original engine.)

I seems to drive okay and I would prefer to drive it home (if I can get the indicators to work). I am also trying to ascertain the year of manufacture in the hope that I can put it on historic rego (30 years or older) as I don't need a ute 24/7 and drive a sedan as my daily driver.

Where should the proper fuse box be located?

Is there anyway of telling what year it is? Surely they had some sequencing of numbers that can identify the year. Anyone know? The engine is a red motor with prefix QD, which according to info suggests Oct 74 - July 76 (At least as far as Holden sedans are concerned). The engine may not be the original anyway - so I'm still guessing.

If I posted pictures of the cab, would anyone be able to tell the year?

Re the fuses, there doesn't appear to be a proper fuse box. I noticed a bunch of fuses hanging down from under the dash just to the right of the steering column. Just blade fuses with no labels.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look when I'm up there next. I am hoping it's just the flasher can busted or missing as I don't fancy trying hand signals all the way home (about 200kms).

As per my previous post (CF Cab Chassis) I am seriously thinking of buying a CF350 cab chassis. It is currently unreg and on a farm. When I drove it around the indicators don't work at all and I immediately thought of the flasher can. I searched around under the dash but couldn't find it.

Anyone know where the flasher can is located?
