Campers / Kitchen inside or out the back doors?« on: August 03, 2016, 04:12:45 PM »
Hey all...
Getting ready to convert my old skool 1976 CF SWB Bedford into a camper for me and the missus to mainly go to concerts and not have to fork out for a hotel. We are bush people and go camping heaps and enjoy the outdoors and therefore do most cooking outside in webbers etc. We have been discussing layout, and me being over 6' tall found the bed will take up a large portion of the van. I have therefore seen some layouts that have the kitchen along the opposite wall to the side door (inside), and a 'rock and roller bed / seat' on the passenger side. The advantages of this set up is the bed can be a seat, and obviously cooking inside can occur. This will make the cooking easily accessible while travelling I suppose. I had previously thought put the bed on the far side and block the rear section off completely with a kitchen accessible from the rear of the van only (with an awning over the doors). Could even fit a small dunny for the missus too. Downfall is the van is pretty much a mobile bed with storage under the mattress and all use of the cooking facilities involves outdoor access. Any opinions on kitchen locations? my missus and I are on the side of the rear kitchen, because we cant think of too many times we will be sitting in the van cooking.. if its raining we will bail and find a pub! We hired one of those Wicked campers and it had a very basic bed setup with an even more basic kitchen in the rear. We found it more than usable, and cooked most of the time out under the stars and didn't even use the rear kitchen. Still open for suggestions, but this van is a lot smaller than I thought. LOL.. the missus would give me massive brownie points if I can get a dunny in there for her. 3

just my 2 bob with regards to v8.
I have one and there is not enough room on the floor left after cutting the hole to even fit a clutch pedal. Either that or the person that did mine was a bit over zealous with the hole cut. 5

Thought I would revisit this old thread...
My Bedford I bought for $1800 and it was licensed with a dodgy 253 in it. I have gathered all the new engine stuff so it will be a very strong and reliable motor once done. The expensive part is gonna be the body work.. I need heaps of fibreglass.. I want to fill in all the windows, scooby kit and cut in some new taillights. The interior is empty atm and will need the dash redone, as it looks like someone tried to cut it in with an axe.. LOL The more I get into the dash the scarier it gets.. starting to wonder if a new wiring harness would be the better option My budget is another $4000 to get it looking decent.. really worried about a canary as I doubt putting these over the pits would be an easy thing to do.. so glad it is already licensed and I live in WA where you don't have to put them over regularly 7
Introduce Yourself / Hiya.. Back after a few years hiatus.. Ready to build« on: April 25, 2015, 08:24:35 PM »
Hey all..
Jason Stanley here from south west WA.. Was a part of this forum way back when I first bought this van. a 1976 Bedford van with a 253 with T400 box.. still licensed. BED-253 Front has been converted to holden. Got the mags made to fit the Bedford rear and the holden front. 253 is almost brand new.. as it is in my shed as we speak about to go back together new intake manifold.. head job.. new cam (towing cam).. new elec ign.. 465 holley with 4bbl manifold Jobs I need to keep the police from yellow sticker: Fibre glass then paint - front fairing, all rear windows, rear fairing, flares Dashboard - need to go hotrod style on the existing re-carpeted dash Reason for the van is a camper.. gonna build a bed with a kitchen.. and missus wants one of those dunnys. I will start a thread in a build section too 8
