Hi all,.
Just wondering has anyone done Resteroid vh,vx , disc brake conversion yet.. I have vn disc all round and using vn master cylinder/booster set up. Currently working quite well, but do feel a bit soft, apparently this is typical of vn brakes. So have been on commodore web site and standard upgrade is vt brakes, with a vs booster and vt master cyl combo. I am going to use vy twin pot calipre's and disc's, with vy master cyl. Looking at Resteroid write up didn't see anything about what brake master cylinder and booster he used.
So wondering if anyone had done the conversion and what booster/master cyl they used and how is it working.

I'm using the the vt.vy disc set up with vt-vy master/booster but the oil reservoir is vs as the front is at an angle to fit under the bonnet
haven't had the van running yet to test
have a look in members rides (givin the van a tickle) also sammy has done a similar set up, I think Resto used the standared bedford master/ booster

As I said already have vn brakes all round the foot brake pedal is Bedford with a combo of vn and Bedford mounting bracket under the dash. Not hard to work out and managed to do it without any welding or cutting. Most commodore owners tend to say vn brakes need upgrading. Managed to get vy calipers, from a guy down the road wrecking his vy, just need to go back and pick up the disc's and master cyl. Need them to make up pattern. Already made calipres for hq, then vn so shouldn't be too hard to make them for the vy brakes.
Looking through Resteroid conversion he didn't mention what booster / master cyl he used so just wondering what other may have used. Didn't think that bedford/hq booster master cyl would cope with twin pot vy vt calipre's. On the commodore sites most seem to upgrade to vt brakes and use vs booster with slight mods and vt master cyl.
The good thing with vn is that it fits in under the bonnet, where if I change to vy it will need some alteration to get it to fit under the bonnet as it's about 80 mm longer.

go to members section, type in rogerfield and chechout his disc brake conversion, most impressive, i have fitted it to my 73 swb. lowered front end 1.5 inches and runs all commodore components so no trouble getting parts new or used, i am running stock bedford master cyl and power booster and pedal feel is light and stops fantastic.

forgot to mention you need to run 15 inch rims, for vt-vz brakes

Already running 15 commodore rims. If beddie booster master cyl is working ok might just keep the vn set up as it's already by mod plated.

Hi Phill,
Had a look at you post, it's coming along nicely,. Not much longer now ? Still got the top coat for the hz panel Van to finish then it's the Bedford, don't know how many times it's been pushed back. Can you tell me how much did you machine off the front of the vn hub, ( where the wheel sits ), and why? Is it so that the wheel fits better.

Cheers Julian I have been playing with the van a bit and need update the post but still got a fair bit to do,
I machined 3 mm off the face, this was so when you put the disc and rim on, the rim can locate it's self onto the hub

Hi Shaginwagin, Many Beddy owners stay with the original Bedford Booster/Master Cylinder with the HQ Calipers (Steel) and Discs which I have done for many years ago with no complications or incidence, and nice and firm on the Pedal, have upgraded my Discs with the RDC Slotted and Dimpled Discs, even for my Jag rear end although have not been on the road yet for testing? Love your Van, Looks nice and hope things go well with the Modifications, regards Ian

Hi Ian,. Yes had the 253 and the hq brakes with beddie booster and hq master cyl. Now have upgraded to all vn motor gear box and all wiring the whole lot so have vn disc's on the front and hx one tonner diff widened and vn disc on the diff. Vn booster and master cyl, they work ok but they do seem to be a bit low, ,have bleed them a couple of times but no different. On commodore site vn had crap brakes. So now that everything is working properly I am taking it all apart and rebuilding it and am going to up grade the brakes to vy disc's twin pot calipre's and maybe the master cyl. Have to check the m/cyl bore to see if and how to fit it to the vn booster. Brakes should be better then. Another month and the hz panel Van will be on the road, then the fun starts.
