talking to a bloke today about how to press sheet metal and stuff.. hmm interesting..
my question to you is... if the bedford was re released onto the market tommorow
1. what motor do you think should it come standard with?
2. how much would be a realistic cost for the final product?
3. how popular do you think they would be?
cheers

1. Big Block Chev
2. 30-40k
3. I think everyone on here would want one
-
V6 minimum, V8 the best, same as Commodore's.
30-40K
Popular enough, long as had same equipment as Vito, ABS air con etc.
Let me know when they will be on the market, I'll start saving now.
HA HA HA I wish.

Interesting questions Ben - did it make your head hurt ?
I would first ask what is the target market and who are the other players in that market, the reason behind this is you have to be competitive in either price or ability.
Is it to be a light industrial vehicle, a people mover, tradesman's work horse?
The Engine would have to be something fuel efficient and powerful, so a smallish turbo diesel would more than likely be the choice, or a larger straight gas one.
It would have to have all the stuff to comply to ADR's, and common creature comforts, so ABS airbags, power steering ergonomic seating, airco, maybe electric windows, cruise control....the list could go on and on.
As for cost, would have to compete with at least the Vito, VW, Ford Transit etc or down to the Hyundai level - so anywhere from $25K up.
Popularity, well we are bias, but everyone would want one wouldn't they ?
If you have a look at the Vito's, taragos or late model transits you see a move away fro the squarish sharp lines to a smoother more rounded aerodynamic shape, that personally I don't like, but what shape would a made over beddy have - maybe it wouldn't be as nice as what we are used to.
Now how long is this piece of string ?

Lucky dreams are free ah! :)

Ben, your on to it!!
This new bedford would come in 2 wheel bases but with a twist. This new bedford will come in just a drivable chassis design with duel or single wheel combo.
Now the tricky bit, we need a good designer like the help of Nigzy with his far out art!!! The bodies will be a combination of snap together pannels. For instance the tradie would be just plain like the transit or vito: select the body style that suits you like high roof or low, long or short. These pannels will just be a quick easy and safe clip together combo that just fits on to the drivable chassis, take a look at the old land cruiser troopy with its bolt on roof and sides; just improve the way we put this baby together and the possibilities are endless!!!!
This is the best part coz when your wanting to go to that far out van show ya just go back to the beddie shop and select some KOOL new pannels that just clip onto that plain old work horse!!!
In just an hour your cruzin in a wicked low fat street prowler......... yeah yeah theres plenty rims out there to choose from so thats an easy one. Oh of course beddie factory will cater for the hoon with mild to wild engines too..........

you guys are sick ;D
-
hahaha.. ok now have a working bee and start producing them lol
-
If i'm involved in said working bee do I get a free one or just cost price?
-
I reckon a few less working beers would add more sense to this topic than a working bee.
but can I put in an order for a new CFS 4wd Camper with a v8 on gas while your dreaming....
-
yeh sure you can have a free one doofhard!!
-
I dont think its so much a dream...but more alot of work.
Its easily possible, with the right skill set and knowledge, cause really, when you think about it, arnt we ALL more or less making these "Dream Beddies" maybe we dont all have $20k and up to make the "New" production kind, but between people Like Ben, and Craig starting there shops, and fibreglass parts etc.....i cant see it will be too long and someone will come along with the ability to make the bodies, and really you can buy a Create engine etc Brand new...so im sure if you were willing to fork out $20-30K you could literally get yourself a brand new Beddy???
Any restoration/customization is not far from just manuafacturing, its just a small scale?
Design, style, and cost effective...and you have yourself a Boutique Car Company.
-
go Ben go... start making repo's in glass just like the AC cobra, we still need a chassis builder, check out the latest custom classic trucks....I'll sort the interiors!
-
they re released the mini and the beatle. those new vw vans look more like a bedford than the kombi
-
would love too have too much money park that SS Bedford right in my garage. ;D
-
do you think it would be nice to have a bolt together fibreglass beddy? or just glassed all together?
cause if you had a smash just make another panel from your mould and replace it rather than panel work!
