The second running of the annual Kawhia Cruise took place on Sunday and was really well attended with over 100 vehicles taking part. All proceeds went to Multiple Sclerosis. The plan was for a few of us to overnight at Ray's place in Hamilton to attend the Sunday run. Stuey had tickets to the Monster Truck event on Saturday night so only joined us on Sunday morning. Saturday was a great day with us all getting a chance to catch up on the status of Ray's CF2 custom build. We also met Bob, an amazing octogenarian who has owned his CF1 pop top for 26 years. After a hearty BBQ put together by Ray and his good lady Jo we all had a good natter and then retired to our vans for a bit of a kip.
We were up bright and early Sunday morning for the short run through to the Jukebox Diner in Hamilton for an "all you could eat" breakfast before heading off in convoy towards Kawhia. After a short stop in Pirongia the convoy headed through to the Oparau Roadhouse where we parked up for a leg stretch and an auction of some donated goodies, then is was back in the cars for the short run to Kawhia where we parked up on the local village green. A number of the local cafe's and coffee houses laid on a good variety of eats and drinks and a cover band called Shotgun kept us entertained for the afternoon.
It wasn't long before we had to say our goodbyes to Ray and Jo and the two CF's then took a lazy cruise back to Auckland. What an amazing weekend it was. Our sincere thanks to Ray and Jo for a great weekend. They were both heavily involved in the running of the event and all credit to them and the organiser Adam Muir for a great event. We will definitely be back next year.
A few pics attached for those who are interested.

Ray's CF2 is just week's away from being on the road. I wont steal his thunder by sharing any of the detail on the mechanical specs and custom body work done, but here is just a quick shot to give you all a taster of what is to come.

A few shots of Bob and his van. What an entertaining old bloke he is.

A few other interesting vehicles that attended the cruise.

And a few more.

Is a shame I wasn't able to catch up with you guys on Saturday, father n law is pretty sick (on last legs), didn't even get to the swap meet at Taupiri on Sunday.
I think I saw Bobs van on Sunday

Busy, we were sorry to hear about your dad in law. Eric had a stag do so we didn't catch up with him either. Hopefully next time. Bob headed back to Cambridge after breakfast, so I'm guessing that is probably when you spotted him.

Good stuff guys. I really need to get my van back on the road which hopefully shouldn't be toooo far away as I need to get to these runs.
On another note the Auckland and Tauranga clubs are having a get together at Opal Springs motor camp in Matamata 15-16 November. If any of you want to come along and meet everyone feel free to attend. Don't worry if your van's not on the road, just come along and have fun.
Also while I'm here, don't forget to get your entry forms in for the 2015 Van Nationals in Paeroa, Easter next year. Get them into me by end of this month for discounted prices. Let me know if you haven't got an entry from and details and I'll e-mail it to you.
Cheers,
Garry.
