Well, it looks like Corgi Toys produced a diecast 1:43 model Bedford Blitz in their 'Opel Collection'.

Good find Hobbit ! well done in your research :D
-
Where can i get one , any idea what scale they are. How old is this add, can you still get them.
george
-
1:43 scale would make this model 100mm long.
-
Geez George you sound like a kid in a lolly shop!! :D
-
Hey fellas
I Had this idea the other day , that being to have a scale model of a CF Bedford so that I could play around with body kit styles and colour schemes, I have a friend in 3D printing and if he could get a copy of CAD file plans he could print us off as many copies as we like at any scale we choose,
Does anyone have access to CAD drawings of a Bedford van?
Any thoughts?
-
can't help you with the cad but would love a scale model print out :)
-
I believe Sundowner (Gary) is working on one - CAD and 3d but probably wouldn't be the best time at the moment
-
hey mezz, i have beddy blood running through my pipes, mention beddy & memobillia in the same sentence and i stand to attention. ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D :D ;D

I have a CADlink sign making program, but it only does 2D.
Being able to obtain any quality blueprints or CAD files for a Beddy is the biggest problem.
These 3D images are about as good as you will find.

im not sure what Bas is doing behind the scenes with the cad, but if you got one of the 1:43 scale models could you not digitally scan it with those dots then when you have it saved, then you pick the scale you want to print it in. Thats what they do with full size cars, splatter it with stick on dots then run a scanner over it and bingo an image of the car starts to appear on the screen with every little detail and measurement.

Every journey starts with a beginning ,Took the angle grinder to the green machine this weekend, no turning back now,
The old wheel arches looked like they had been bought at K Mart and stuck on so they had to go, gull wind side door is next , then the re shaping of the front. -After that she should be ready for painting, Bit of air brushing and an album cover on the back - she should be good to go.
-
Getting back to the model Bedford thread, as Busy said I have been working on a 3D surface model of a CFL (as that is what mine is) but have not done anything on this since late 2012 as time hasn't been available. Below is where the model is at the moment. Once done, this could be converted into an STL file that can then be 3d printed. I may be able to spend a bit of time on it now but with work and trying to get the van sorted prior to painting it won't happen overnight. If someone wants to take what I have here and progress it further I'm happy to sent them the file. This is done as a surface model in Solidworks so you would need to be able to do advanced surfing using Solidworks.
Anyway I'll see what I can do to progress this further.
Cheers,
Garry.

interesting work Garry...nice one
-
Awesome Garry, i don't know how to surf, i kept falling off the board, and it's even harder now i am in a chair, ;) ;) ;) :D ;D when you get it finished ready for printing, i want 2 in 1:18 scale.
I had a look at those opels, and they had every van and bedford van ever made, except for a CF, buga. These guys are elusive, so i hope you can get the cad done and start printing garry, first cab off the rank mate. I have a space front and center in my diecast display already cleared and ready. ;) :D ;D :o ::)
george
-
Looks good mate! From that I can modify the file to look like my van easily enough ;)
-
Correct me if i am wrong, but once you have the initial design locked in, i am guessing it would not be to hard to add an easy roller front to it, or other custom bits, am i right.

Hi George,
Yeah, once you have the base CAD model any modifications etc can added to it to produce whatever you have done to your own van. That's why I'm doing the initial CAD model as a standard van first, rather than modelling my own van, so that it can used by anyone who can drive CAD. It should also be relatively easy to cut the LWB version down to a SWB variant once completed, whenever that may be.
Cheers,
Garry.
-
Thats awesome Garry, im guessing that it will be a closed plastic model, meaning the doors and bonnet wont open. I cant wait, we can then paint them to match our own vans. Well i am down for the first 2 customer vans. Will you be able to do any of the scales that we want or is your printer restricted to a certain scale.
george
-
Doors could be printed separately so they can be hinge mounted to open. I'll cut the side door out of the current model. You could print it in any scale. If it turned out to be too big for a printer, it could be printed in sections and glued together.
Cheers,
Garry.

Dinky Toys were popular diecast miniatures in the UK and around the world, using mostly 1:45 scale.
As well as making a range of US vans, Dinky produced the Bedford 410 in large quantities.
They were 90mm long, fitted with Speedwheels, were well built but lacked some attention to detail.
The first 410 was sold in 1972 with Simpson's Canadian store (pic 2). In 1974 they made the Danish
Post van, followed by another 9 or 10 models. These 410 models were supplied pre-painted in various colours for dealers to add their own advertising.
When the factory closed in 1979, John Gay, a specialist model dealer, bought several hundred blanks
and left over decals and continued to sell them. These are known as the Code 2 models.
They can always be found on ebay.

-
The Dinky Bedford 412 was first produced as a yellow AA service van.
The Code 2 models were refinished and sold in a few different variations.
-
Matchbox (Lesney) and Corgi made CA Bedford models in the late 50s-early 60s. I remember having
a #29 Matchbox Milk Delivery van when I was a child. (My first Beddy)
In 1986, Matchbox produced a 1:43 scale Bedford K143 Ambulance as part of their Superkings range. These have good detail and were probably the only model CF2 van made.
-
Wiking Models: German manufacturer, Wiking Modellbau produced the No. 87 Feuerwehr (Fire Dept.)
Bedford in 1976. It was more accurately detailed than other 70's CF models. (pics)
Three other companies - Faie, Welly, and Pioneer (Remco) shared the same 1:64 castings for a more
generic looking van. Made in China, there were three variations in the casting, two porthole vans and
a solid side model. Many of these have 'Bedford' on the base.

Dinky 410-H Code 3
I found a webpage on a NZ toy site by a collector, regarding the Dinky 410 models.
There's a good set of expandable pics on here.
At the bottom of the page it shows an 'Ishimar' produced Dinky 410-H which was made in 2010.

I have a few of the Dinky vans (and lots of the corgi), the dinky have tin bases and undersized wheels.
The best likeness of a CF Bedford in a model that I have found is a HO model (train set model, smaller than hotwheels). Is plastic but is very well scaled
-
You'll have to post some pics of your collection one day, Busy.
I just bought this one from Melbourne through ebay. A good old 70's model with proper sized wheels.
Would love to know it's history.
-
I have a website for them, mainly so I can check what I have when I go shopping.
website is http://diecastvans.com/
The HO one I was talking about is first one on this page http://diecastvans.com/othertypes.html
-
Wow man, very impressive. I'll be spending some time checking that lot out. 8)
the HotWheels vans are great. The HO van is definitely much better proportioned, it's beaut.
You have obviously put a good deal of time into that collection. Thanks for the link.
http://toyvan.co.uk/ is a good van web page, much like your site, however, my virus protection gives a potential threat warning when browsing. No detected viruses after scanning though.
-
Thanks, The toyvan site gave me the idea for the site, but he like many others pour some big money into their collections where as I don't. I have a max dollar limit per van ($10 with postage) because I know there is no resale value in them. I just do it for the love of vans but without going broke. I have over 300 and at X amount of dollars each it soon adds up
-
some one just posted this on face book ..
"The dutch bedford pub" page

Thanx guys for your birthday wishes! :) :) :) :) :)
yeah Ray has been looking for a long time for a match box beddie
and when this thread started he was happy to find a replica beddy thats a nice size too!
I think i can live with it being orange ???
-
You can always get it wrapped in purple Wendy.
-
yep that could be on the cards....if i cant find a little jar of paint, i did find years ago, of a kool shade of purle that caught my eye ;)
-
I paint my model vans with nail polish (through airbrush) heaps of colours to choose from, or if you have some left over paint from your own van ...
-
Yeah Busy We got 8 litres made up since it was a custome colour...wow thats clever idea!
Do u do murals with ur air brush?
-
Do stick figures count as murals? haha
-
Gunning said....nice....another beddie to customise....do they offer aftermarket wheels etc?
Well, they do make a few types of 1:43 scale wheels.
I got my second IXO Blitz model today, and immediately put these Dragways on it.
Think I'll leave the standard rims on the blue one, it's got new fatter tyres also.
I'm customizing a few Dinky Bedford 410's at the moment, will post pics when finished.
-
Looks cool id buy a few
-
Thats sik Hobbit, how the hell did you do that....loose!....
righto..................................................................MUUUUUUM....can i can i can i
-
Thanks,
I had a couple of sets of wheels already, Minilites will be going on the first Dinky van.
Bloody fiddly though, it would be easier working on a larger scale, that's for sure.
-
What 1:1..... ;D
-
PIC1.
An easy conversion to regular sized Dinky road hubs & tyres for this one, to go with my Kodak van....... it even has an admirer.
The second two photos are of a handmade (carved) model from Rods 'n' Sods website.
