I found this beautiful Aussie Summer poem and thought it might be a comfort to you. It was to me and it's very well written; I hope you enjoy it because it's the best piece of English literature I've seen in quite a while....

gday well ive been giving my beddy the ultimate work out this week... ive had to travel from essendon to mordialloc in 43-45 degrees which is about a one hour drive in peak hour traffic! the overly exxy 3 core radiator held up tho i had to have it in neutral at the lights revving at 2000rpm just to keep it out of the red! how did other beddies go in this record breaking heatwave? has anyone got a beddy that doesnt get real hot at lights on a real hot day? and if so, how is it done? the only way i can fit thermos on mine is if i somehow move the radiator forward or the engine back, both of which are major jobs. anyway hopefully theres not too many days like that again, being a landscaper in the sun wasnt much fun either!!

yep yep yep, how's about this heat 8)
the only thing that i have been able to do @ traffic lights...is turn on the heater fan and blast all the hot air out of the engine bay - into the cab...i know it's some damn hot bidness, but it's the only thing that'll work for me until i get a new donk.. ;D

Try a week in Dubbo where the next train stop is Hell.
I measured 44.2 in the shade yesterday and not much better today.
I went to the repo car auctions yesterday and watched a VR SS sedan go for $1000 and a dual cab Rodeo go fot $800. I privately bought a 1995 Mazda MPV van for $1600 for the wife. Cars are worth bugger all at the moment.
"Google earthing" that van looks like it is an old Commer by the big ridge in the middle of the roof:

I took my kids camping over the last week to Thurra River near Point Hicks Lighthouse, Towed a A liner camper van.
The trip there was un eventful except for the last 20 Klm of dirt road in, twisty rutted road reminded me of the roads in country NSW I used to drive on :D.
Had a great time at the beach, swimming all day - didn't notice how Furkin hot it actually was.
We headed out Thursday lunch time, and drive the dirt section was stinking hot, and the heater tap kept vibrating on so it was hot in the cabin.
My youngest daughter came up with a cheap air conditioning unit - a misting/spray bottle, she spent her time spraying everyones necks backs and faces, worked a treat :D, once back on to the tarmac I turned the heater off and things cooled down considerably.
I have a 202 with Aussie 4 speed, standard radiator, and 3.08 diff, normally hills are not a problem, but towing the Aliner meant the occasional downshift to clime some of the steeper hills.
This trip is the first time I've seen it go over 200 deg, got up to 240, but I think the outside temp was around the 42-43 deg mark.
We stopped in Sale for dinner and rested till after dark, then did the rest in relative comfort, watched all the fire brigade units pass going the other way to wards the bush fires.
Was tempted to drop in on Ben and camp over night, but decided to travel in the cool of the night, bloody glad I did as it was stinking hot the next day.
But the trip did give my time to start a list of jobs that need to be done.

i dont have overheating problems..
whats different about my van??
173 opposed to a 202.. better for staying cooler
ford xc gt grill.. probably lets a bit more air in there.
but i use a 2 core standard holden radiator. no thermos no scoups nothing.
my guage usually sits about the blue mark. on the hot days it will rise in traffic to 3/4s

gday warren yeah id be interested to see how you combat your overheating probs... and benno why would a 173 run cooler than a 202? mines on gas so i think that makes it run hotter. not sure your ford front would make a difference. but have u really sat in traffic? traffic to you country boy is not traffic to us!!! he he! thats why im asking if anyone has an answer for overheating in traffic without thermos? i cant really see a logical reason why one would overheat and another not?

I have 186 and trimatic that was running a bit hot when stuck in traffic took the radiator out it was stuffed replaced it with a 3 core new one cost about $270 I was stuck in traffic on the gateway last week for 2 hours and not an once of problem. I keep the coolant changed at least yearly and give both block and radiator good flush outs

mine used to overheat (202) so i got a 3 core and that helped heaps,
changed to a 186 - worse, but hotter weather
still overheated in traffic 40 degree days and at over 130km/h for any length of time on a hot day (spare wheel is in front of radiator)
So i fixed it with two 9 inch thermo fans (most i could fit around water pump)
Fine in traffic, but i haven't driven up to sydney on a hot day so i don't know if that's sorted

i think the 173 runs cooler because it has thicker walls
