Title: slipped into disc's
Post by: photol on January 24, 2009, 11:05:06 PM
Morning All

....the real issue is.... sometimes, at a glance, my CFL looks like a 60's model,  E300 Mazada concept light commercial, who's designers were tripping..... why?   'cause you can drive a Gogo Mobile into the empty wheel arch. Is this because back in the early 70's, 14in rims are ok with 7in high tyres on them ?

So change it.....       without losing the classic LWB "Dually" look, retain or increase ground clearancet and if we have to spend money, then make it better, much[/i ]better....

why not just adapt large disc rotors front and rear ala Ford F350 series,or Dodge, maybe even Transit or toyota have  the new rotors drilled with desired bolt stud pattern, work the guards to suit custom 16" 17.5" or (go wild) 20" Dually wheels....voila, improved aesthetics better braking, ride and handling.

Quanto-costa.....estimating two to three grand or more, per corner, depending on how you went about it. Not tooo bad given every thing is new and possibly  certified. see you in three years when I've saved the dough..........

......or is there another way,           early F250 Duall split rims 15 or 16 inch (?)      perhaps a whacky Dyna

.....so far have come up with this.........

yeah, every time one of those dual wheel F350 drives past me i think "hmmmmmmmm, that would be the business"
Has anyone ever measured an F350 diff, and sussed out the bearings required for the front (Yup, i'd rather follow than lead on this one :D"

...er, yes,....I lament the loss of being able to modify one's postings the next day.....my rather naive ramblings above have a bit of a "cringe" factor.....never the less, I was hoping that in thirty plus years of CFL Bedford existence, some one must have put 16's on one by now....or it just simply ain't possible......

....so in this regard, Worzel, I'm probably not the one to follow, as I may just lead you astray....but I will continue the research and post my findings....

yeah, i have a few posts that i wish i'd thought about a bit more.
fitting 16" rims isn't a hassle with the single wheel diff as i (misunderstand?) it.
Holden HQ pattern 16" rims if you have holden pattern single wheel diff,

But those F-series with the 18" chrome dual wheels, hmmmmm, me like.
Probably is a bearing combination to suit the  front, but the disc caliper adapter plate, that's gonna be a custom jobbie.

I know i'm never gonna go near looking at it seriously, still, no harm in dreaming ::)

I would have thought that the duallies brakes would be up to the task, and then just find some of those alloy rims - would look sweet

..these day(and nights)I'm having trouble telling the difference between dream state and waking state. Although a  request for money often snaps me back to this reality.

so let's call this a research project,

I asked Dragway engineering if they can make dual wheel rims, they cannot.

there is a guy selling 9inch diffs that range in price from $750 t $950 depending on type, this may give access to ford f series rear wheels, but there are probably other issues......

ask the brake engineers next.....also carry tape measure and buy a set of electronic vernier calipers....

find some early 84 transit wheels and discs.....as worzel is thinking, and others I'm sure....

a last resort may be finding some high profile 14's.....but there is plenty of time yet

Ok Olli I have found a wheel supplier who may be able to help. Can do 5 Stub rims in Bedford pattern. May be able to do 6 Stud 17" Super Single in a Bedford pattern

I need Sydney members near Castle Hill with 5 stud and 6 stud Bedford pattern wheels to drop in so they can measure up.

PM me with your contact numbers please.

Sorry don't know of them, but no an engineer that can make anything you could name. Built his own street rod, includes wire mag wheels, blower etc, very few of these guys left.

....there is no God, if there was, he would help me keep my big mouth shut 'til I knew what I was talking about

.....ok then, like Wozral I'm begining to understand why I havent seen many ....any Lwb's running 16inch duals....

So just imagine five stud disc front  and a modified 9inch with Ford F series eight stud pattern dually rear.....(remember there is no God)

let's just say then that we don't mind carting around two spares, 'cause the front 16's are different from the 17.5's duals on the back anyway.......

And here's a very prompt reply from Hopper's stoppers......

Oliver
We have a 300mm twin piston kit available for the CF Vans so we know what
these front ends and the matching stub axle/hubs look like but not possible
to do any stud pattern bigger than (5 inch 127mm) pcd with our disc
conversion.

(F series is 170mm), I will attach some instructions for your interest.

That's just the front and these kits start from $1350.

Peter Koning
