I'm afraid to seal up the seams, in any way other than originally intended, for fear of creating a hidden rust problem.
But this post has reminded me of another problem I see on EVERY bedford, and for which I can't find a corresponding post on this site:
The dreaded splitting and rusting on both sides of the side cargo doors, just below floor height. See attached photo at points 'A' and 'B'.
Bogging and painting is no use because the vehicle flexes and reopens these cracks after time.
Can anyone tell me how to successfully treat this problem, or how would I strengthen this part of the body?
Regards, rubber.

Jezz Rubbery, those cracks are so small I can't see em :D
Oh....no pictures ::)

Oh no! You can't see the picture? I don't know why that happens. Sometimes when I read the forum, someone posts a picture and I can't see it. I figure they've forgotten to attach it. But others comment on the picture as if they can see it. I did attach a photo to my post, promise, and I can see it above your response, so now I think there is a problem with the forum software, or with the kind of attachment I made (it's a .jpg of 68kb - that should work, no?)
Alternatively, try this: http://www.geocities.com/malencontreaux/bedfordsplits.jpg (http://www.geocities.com/malencontreaux/bedfordsplits.jpg)
Can you see the photo?

I tried viewing this thread as a guest (i.e. not logged in) and I couldn't see the photo that I posted. Now that I'm logged in I can see it. But I can always see the photos posted by Ben whether I am logged in or not. I hope someone can tell me why this happens, and how to fix it.
Anyway, Ben, thanks for having a look. Have you ever seen a good solution to the splitting/cracking that happens either side of the cargo door?
Regards, rubber

i didnt know that there was a problem with the either side of the cargo door cracking sorry.. id say just mig weld it up so no seem!!! it will never crack again..
the reason you can see my photos is because im getting them hosted by photobucket bro.. so they will show anywhere.. i can also change what size i upload them as too..
all my photos are too big to go stright onto this site.. so unless i condense them thy woont fit on. so i use photobucket instead.. works well..
i think you can do this with ebay and stuff too.. where they charge you money to upload photos onto your add but if you host them on photobucet its free and you can get much bigger pictures too!!
cool if youve got something that is in mint condition and you want much biger photos for people to see the awsomeness of your product!!

I'd say there was rust in the bottom of the pillars for them to split
-
Rust - definitely possible. That area strikes me as structurally weak though. One pillar between two large openings...big steel box lurching down the highway, round the bends, flexing, twisting. On the other hand I might be hyper-aware of this problem and perhaps my case is isolated after all.
Rubber.
