Title: How much have you spent
Post by: Bullstik on July 30, 2008, 09:43:45 PM: Fixing old vehicles can take alot of money. I havent fixed up something as big as a long wheel base beddy before, the largest i've done was only a 1968 f100 and was wondering how much money did you all think you were going to spend on your van at first and how much has it actualy cost!

mine cost $4997, was fitted out but was too smelly and old. So i pulled everything out and have started to grind back the rust and paint. So far i'm looking at spending another $2500 or so if i do all the fixtures, painting and rust repairs myself. But so far i've spent about $400 allready and i've just started :o

whats your all total guys

My wife went through my receipts and informed me that I'm now up to $13000 total, and a year out of my life.

But easily over $10K so far, that's just the "expensive items" off the top of my head...

It'll all be worth it at the end though...

and i had all the parts.. except 2 parker globes and a no plate light $3 worth

cost me a bottle of mig gas $136 between all the miging ive done on it!!

only thing i didnt replace was the body inc all doors, dragways, steering wheel, front cross member, lower wishbones and lower ball joints

roadworthy cert cost $70

and reg on monday will cost about $400

plan on maybe spending a grand on carpet and sandman rear tailgates and tail lights

so running total on the road is $1600.. not bad so far.

"now now sonny, I want to restore her one day but your are welcome to have a look." a $1000 later and another $600 on RWC and rego and I was the very very proud of a stock standard fully imported Bedford factory fitted pop top camper van in original condition with MINIMAL rust wooo hooo ..... been spending low budget money on her eversince, in real terms probably owes me $3000, bought other beddies for parts and then sold what was left for more than I paid so never suffered any losses. B ;) been offered $6000 cash but me say NO. ;D

But when it comes to my other van, Bad Company (XC VAN) it owes me just over $42,000. i bought it as a stock sundowner for $3500. MMMMMM , no wonder it took me so long to get my deposit for a house ;D

Post by: Sundownernz on August 04, 2008, 10:54:54 AM: I'd like to say not much but i'd be lying. The van cost me about $4500 way back in '85 and I guess over the years I've put another $15K into it. If i had to pay someone else for the body work, interior, paint, mechanicals etc then I guess it would be heaps more. Deffinately helps if you can do the work yourself. But to hell with the cost, I wouldn't be without it.

By the way guys, DONT let the boss near the reciepts. She'll either start moaning about the cost of your toys or will want something of similar value for herself and thats the expensive bit by far.

My cheapest van was $0, my dearest is $19,000 and it is still not finished.
Most were between $3000 an $6000.
My current runner is a CFL truck with V6 that owes me about $9,000 so far.
How much all up? With over 30 CFs laying around, more than I care to think about.
