OK OK I know it sounds very ambitious but.......
heres an idea. I notice that WA and some other states try to have a get together every once in a while and by the look of the posts it seems that not a lot ever turn up.( not having a go at anyone but its hard to make sure you are free to attend at short notice)
SO
why dont we plan well ahead like early 2009 or something and have a national bedford meeting????
it should give everyone a chance to get a van on the road, and make sure that they dont have something else planned for the weekend.
its actually easier than it sounds
#1. Just pick a date
#2. pick a state
#3. pick a state
#4. get a CF on the road by that date( doesnt matter what condition just registered)
#5. save your funds so that you can afford to get there.
#6 turn up and have a great time
we might even be able to get some kind of record for most CF's in one place at one time.
have a fun run, do some prizes and we could even, involve a charity and make a donation or something(the hells angels or one of the bike gangs do a similar thing with toys for needy kids,it will give us some publicity and help draw some new members)
and if we make sure the venue has camping close by it shouldnt be that expensive for members to make a good weekend of it.
Interstate memebers could even get together and make the trip together like a road trip.
Im keen and will even put up some of the prizes for events or vans etc

I think it has been mentioned before, also another idea was to have a get together in each state on the same day, and web cast it.

Both ideas sound great! We'll be in. Some time during the second half of January or during the last half of the school (and Uni) holidays could be a plan?

Hi People, I don't think this idea is at all ambitious. I used to own a large motorhome and travelled all around Australia, meeting like minded people on the way. Over a coupla cooldies, we decided to have a reunion in Alice Srings in 1995. We gave everyone plenty of time to plan for this, like 2 years. The core group turned up, travelling from Qld.,WA., and SA. The "gonna's" weren't there! It was great tho.
Only a sugestion, maybe aim for spring next year (weather should be better) and a realistic time to save for it. Maybe some kind of nomination or deposit, once the venue is decided, (Booking or site fee) quite a few caravan parks & the towns love these events because of the obvious influx of dollars.
We will be there!!!

Ok ive been looking through the posts and it seems early 2009 is too soon as a lot of people on here dont have thier vans in running order so we need to look further ahead perhaps late 2009 that gives everyone a chance to get ready.
now we need to get some hands up as to who would come... so we can see if its worth puttig some thought into or are we flogging a dead horse here.

hey i think its a great idea...
but i dont know if it would work.. im usually an optimist.. but if its hard to get people together in thier own state is it going to be any easier to get people to travel interstate on 1 particular day? what happens if you cant make that date? its the end of the world!!!
just my opinion but maybe the web pod cast would be more feasable..
but all the same i would support a fully national beddy get together.. if we can get enough support..
if we do decide to go ahead with the idea. maybe if we can coincide it with like the van nats or some even that people are going to already.. might be end up being better..

yeah I agree ben that its hard to get them to meet up for local events like state meets, thats Why I think a national meet will work better as you know its only on once a year and that if you dont move heaven and earth to be there then....... you just miss out, keeps you more motivated on getting there.
in saying that if members want to have it alongside something like the van nationals or another event then we should put some ideas up im keen on anything that gets us together.
( a lap of bathurst is always fun hehe but you have to make sure its not on a race weekend or you have to get that van moving pretty fast lol)
Ok lets see who's interested in going - see if we can get over 50 vans hey maybe take a poll

The 2009 Van Nats are in Geelong Victoria.
Daz the guy that organized the State Titles is also running the Nats.
(With lots of help from Dot and Tracey).
As always it's over the Easter Holidays.

This is great! I was writing up a reply about the Van Nats when this post first went up, but had to bail before I finised it and just got back on. Glad to see this!! ;D Daz has been on this site a few tims and still pops his head in every now and then. He is on here as 'Imposter' (because he drives a Tranny, oops I mean Transit).
We will be there and in whatever condition we (and Beddy) are in at the time!
The 2009 Van Nats in looking at being the biggest in a very, very long time. It would be a good thing if we could have a massive Bedford turn out, fly the BUGA banner and all that! Let's show the world that the Bedford is still holding strong and is still the best Van on the streets! ;D
They have prizes for everything so there is no excuse (apart from starvation) for not getting your van down to show off, or just sleep in ;) I can ask Daz to post up a link on this site for obtaining entry tickets if you're interested?
It would be awesome to see as many Bedfords representing as possible! 8)

yep I'm trying to convince the missus to go to the nats want to taketwo vans but do I really need to?? would be bummed if there were no other Beddies :-\ I think the Van Nats is best for the national "van in" support the guys that have been doing it for years.... then there something for every one, on that note what is fun to do in " the nats area??" I'll have a look at that...........Dano

There are going to be Bedfords there and they are some of, if not the best this country has on offer!
There has been a burn out pad and comp approved aswell, so come on Doofhard lets hear that 400 ROAR! ;D
There are prizes to cover all sorts of categories and for BIG vans specific also to cover all kinds of efforts made.

heres an update on the Van Nats:
Well the van nats is shaping up to be BIG, with confirmed Bedfords so far - Mystic Fantasy, Alien8, The Beast, The Judge, Easy Roller, Bedvan,Wrangler, Vantastic, Wildside & a few others so come on guys and girls get your entry in asap as the prices go up as of the 1st of Jan.
we already have over 85 vans, 50 hot rods and 30 other cars entered. I hope to have atleaat 150 vans there.

Hi Everyone again, Do we need to book a site ourselves for the Van nats, or is the club planning on a bulk book of sites, so that we can be all together?? ???

yep, that sounds like the way to go, how do we book a camp site for the buga members? makes sense to me if your planning staying overnite or even a place to park during the day, we could organise our own bbq and meet area?

A ggod exterior coat isn't the only thing worth looking at. Mind you it does look good while you're driving down the highway or parked somewhere or...........
Over the last 4-5 months we've had lots of nasty rust pop out all over the shop mostly around the cab half due to shongky body prep work by previous panelbeater/painter. Not to mention the ding in the front due to badly packed tray backs on the highway. >:( So we're going to have to get heeps of body work done to get the old girl looking shmick again! :( We're hopeing to have this all done before the Nats (no idea how as $$$???) but if not we'll be presenting rust, ding and all :P

I think a national event is on the cards!
I have a website and forum for vintage Yamaha dirt bikes and I am holding my first
gathering in March 2009.
I plan to hold 3 a year. For this first event I already have confirmed attendee's from NSW, QLD,
VIC and SA. It is going to be a cracker!

Now organising and planning took me a couple of months to nut everything out but the invites have gone
out and so far the response has been great.
A national event 'ambitious' - definately not. All it takes is organisation and a few helping hands to pitch in and
get the job done - and on this site there is no shortage of that!
