Title: Trans Am front
Post by: petrolhead on April 17, 2013, 06:23:34 PM
Here is an intresting concept, has anybody seen the popular 70's Trans Am front on a Beddie? A mate of mine has one in his shed in Qld.

I've seen it on HQ,s and the like over the years, panel vans mostly, and it looked crap on them. It is an ugly looking front on the original Trans Am without butchering the look of something else. If you want that front, get a Trans Am!

It seems a bit of a 'try hard' to me. A bit like those poor buggers that think by putting a Chev badge on their Commodores all of a sudden it is cool.

I totally agree with you beerbeddy,
I don't mind the commodore front, ford GT grill front.
But trans am? Don't think so.

But you just never know?
Do it petrolhead, you prob be the first.

I've seen one fitted to a Valiant Drifter van HUGE job to do but he pulled it off nicely

Dont know if its just me but ::)....the whole vanning genre is about getting in there, customising your beast by trying out this & that? A bit self expression is a good thing i reckon. There is too much cloning these days. If you like the trans am front...do it. If you love it, keep it. If you end up hating it, rip it off & try something else! IMHO, the trans am front looks cool. ;)

Gidday, have a pic of one that was done over here in NZ in my gallery, in the album bedfords Ive photographed. Last saw it in the flesh at the 1999 van nationals in taupo. Check it out if you want to know whether it works on a cf or not.

Cheers Jeff

I remember a bloke who had the trans am front and a targa roof on a HQ Monaro back then, I laughed, cos with all the money he spent, he could have had the real thing.

Jeff's photo..

To me, it needed setting further back, tho I dont think the 77-81 front suits a bedford as it's too square, its fine on a HQ-WB, but a bedford would need a 70-76 firebird front to suit the shape in my opinion. Even then it would require significant work to make it 'match'
It looks like it wants to sit alot lower aswell to match the lines on the side of the van, with some sheetmetal extending upward to the base of the bonnet..
Personally i LOVE firebirds, and i LOVE bedfords, however not convinced about the two combined

ERRR.... that looks just wrong, proportions just arn't right and as for the side door what's with the big step up

The front looks horrible on a beddy,
the big step on the side door is to suit the front doors.

I'm with you matte, i love the trans am firebirds, especially the bandit, but together on a beddy, no. I have a few 1:18s in my diecast collection, bugga just wish i could get a 1:18 beddy. I am just waiting for the 3D printers to drop in price and i will do my own models.

Wow that pic of the trans am beddy looks like the beddy's brakes failed (no surprise there) and shunted a trans am up the bum and that's where the two of them stopped!

Nup sorry, I know it is all about personal taste and getting your ideas out there, but this simply looks odd. The beddy has nice curves and lines, the trans am is too boxy. A set of dual headlights and a front splitter is about all the front end refinement needed in my view. I'm leaving mine alone. I will fit a bull bar and driving lights and let the orignial styling speak for itself.

I must say, on a beddy, it does look a bit poo :-\ If there was some way of shaving off so it followed the lines of bonnet? maybe? ;)

Hey Rotti, there is a way to shave it to fit a beddy, 1st you call benny, then you ask him to spend months building a fibreglass trans-am front that is more streamed lined, that should impress the hell out of ben.  ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)
I would maybe look at a trams-am if you could get it to fit into the current grill area, maybe stick out no more then a normal bumper or spoiler, i have always loved the eagle eyes of the trans-am, ever since i saw it on the Rockford files, then smokey and the bandit. Yank cars are always boxy, i was parked at the shopping centre the other day, and parked right beside me when i got back was a H3 Hummer, now that's a house brick.

Hey George.
Dont get me started on american cars....Nothin better really. Have been around Dodges forever. Had afew phoenixes (fury) comfy, smoother than any new car, just cant keep the fuel up to them anymore as a daily cruiser anyways!
back to the trans am front, i wouldnt envy Ben if he was aked to make one fit. Pretty easy if the vehicle has a actual nose like a hq/wb or something, not a 'sawn off' like our beddies! :D

What about modifying the CF grill to look like the trans am? not sure what it would look like, I think Bas posted something somewhere similar.
Bascially it would be a solid V in the middle of the grill and use twin rectangle lights, put an eagle on the bonnet and no one would know ;)

Looks like the front doors have been shortened
