Ok I know we had this discussion a little while ago
but what is the legal ruling for side pipes.
My mechanic who specializes in performance vehicles tells me that side pipes are ok as long as they do not finish within a certain distance of an opening door or window.
If this is true it would be hard to put side pipes on the passenger side of a cf as the side door opens close to the rear wheel and the side pipes could not go far past the door....
..BUT....
the blue van on ebay last week was clearly fitted with side pipes on both sides of the vehicle.
any ideas?
and what the hell are swishers?/?
there is a van for sale at the moment that also has side pipes but has called them (swishers)

legal in WA as commercial vehicle and side door listed as cargo door.

In A.C.T it is as long as they are behind any door with an opening window. So, even if it has a cargo door it is fine as long as they go 100mm ( i think) past the front foors (and meet all the other noise and mounting requirements.
Cheers, Nathan.

We registered our long wheel base last Christmas and we had to change our system so that the exhaust was behind the back wheel. We were told that under no circumstances was an exhaust to be located in front of a back wheel, it has to be behind.

G'day
I have always run a single (or dual) 2.5" pipe(s) out the passenger side just in front of the wheel. Never had a problem with rego.

Our LWB is originally from Tamworth and the exhaust was a side pipe that came out on the passenger side in front of the rear wheel. This was a problem when we went to register it in WA and we had to change it. It maybe OK in NSW, some stuff is different in different states.
