Title: Any 308s running
Post by: atk1 on September 30, 2008, 06:35:57 PM
Hey guys just wondering if anybody has a Holden 308 in their Bedford? If so what are they like? Any tips/tricks? I got a free recond 308 to use which is still in the Commodore which is apparently a police car model. Sounds nice running, just purrs. Alot quieter than my 350 Chev but I dunno if its quite as cool

you will find that the 308 takes up alot more floor space.as the blocks are a much wider v shape.

A 308 stroked to a 355 will rival a 350 chev any day, they sound very, very nice aswel! my cousin has a 10k worked 308 sitting in his garage has been there for a few years... I have tried many a time to convince him to throw it in the beddy but he won't have a bar of it... I'll get it one day  :D

Yes the floor has already been cut for the 308 and the hole is humungous!

The Chev definately sounds better than the Holden V8.

Is your a manual or auto, cause there ain't much room between the chevy donk and the steering wheel column. I'd think that you would have a hot foot in Summer with a wider V in your 8. ::)

What bolt pattern is the 308? Does it suit your box? If it was me, I'd sell the 308 and buy some cool bits for the chev.

With the chev you are already starting with more! 8)

"Alot quieter than my 350 Chev but I dunno if its quite as cool" - Definately not as cool! 8)

P.S. Cool is what you make it! Don't listen to us Chev owners we're all Bias ...........But they do sound better! ::)

I'm not going to say anything about the chevy/holden thing

*whsipers*
bore a 350 out 30 thou and you got a 355, stroke the 350 and you got a rat 383 engine
*stops whispering*

but if I did I'd go along with whats been said and say chevy is the better deal ;)

Hi atk1,
Have got a 253  (out of a HZ red motor) in Alien8, attached to a trimatic, and chev caprice diff, (2.77 ratio). Goes alright when you finally get it wound up.  Its getting a 308 next year and a ford diff, with a better ratio.  The advantage with the 253 or 308 is that it sits on the same engine mounts as the 6 cyl.  Yes I think the chev is a narrower engine but you have to get different engine mounts made and then engineer reports.

Yep you are right have already got engineer report for 253, HQ discs, and different diff.  What I should have said was that you won,t have to get the report on the engine mounts as you don,t have to change them.  My mistake :-[

Mounting the engine is the least of your worries, they care alot more about your brakes but with a hq disc brake upgrade as long as it's installed properly should make them happy.  When I engineer my LWB chev I have to engineer engine, brakes, gearbox, diff and hopefully power steering it's going to cost an arm and a leg.
