I have heard a few stories of Engineers not willing to pass a 350ci motor in a CFS van as it doesn't meet the NSW RTA guidelines as per:

Recently I have been told that the listed kerb weight of a CFS van is 1120kgs.
For mono constructed vehicles over 1100kgs the formula is kgs x 0.294
Applying the formula:
1120 x 0.294 equals 329ci
However the 1120kgs is the weight of a 4 cyl CFS van.
A 6 cyl CFS van has a kerb weight of 1314kgs
1314 x 0.294 equals 386ci so a 350 should be OK.
Now that changes a few plans!!!

would the cert still be at the engineers discretion, ??? ??? or would ::) they then :o not :o be able to dispute this formula chris ???

sounds good to me.
you may need a weighbridge certificate for your engineer to prove your GVM, but I guess your best off finding an engineer that will be open to cert it based on your maths before anything actually done!

It is the original weight that will be the deciding factor. A basic CFS didn't have much in it, that is ehy it is so light. By the time you put all the extras in, the weight usually goes way up. I had a stock CFS van that I put a 308 V8, trimatic, Chevy 12 bolt, and discs into. I kept it as light as possible and it weighed in at 1510kgs, just into the next weight grouping for rego, costing extra for rego each year.
