Title: Celica gearbox, what's it worth?
Post by: maicoletta on June 13, 2012, 03:07:37 PM
Hey y'all. I've just bought me Beddy Camper, lwb, currently with Holden red 6 and a 3 speed manual.

I've been eyeing up getting a 5 speed to install, with housings etc(i see from CRS is a good way to go), and have come across a wreckers with a TA22 celica, should have a W50 5 speed steel gearbox.

Thing is, he wants $450 for it.... Is this a touch steep?

Cheers in advance... Al

TA22's dont come with a W50 box. they come with a T50.

Either way $450 is way to expensive. I used to sell the T50's for $50-$80.

Sign up to the toymods forum and put a wanted post on there. You will more than likely find one very cheap.

Dellow Conversions, Padstow, also do bell housing adapters. I was told that the W50 is almost as strong as an Aussie 4 speed.

thanks all, will not be parting with that wad!

On a totally different but related note, i'd love to be able to put in a bench seat- my father in law has got a recond one from an old holden, which he assures me will "drop straight in" (look forward to it being that simple!! :D), but am i then gonna have issues with placement of shifter?

Would an alternative aussie box be better?

thanks again...
