Title: Trying to buy a Bedford van
Post by: soakes on April 26, 2012, 04:25:46 PM
Hi Bedforders,
for years now, on and off, I've been looking to buy a van.  Mainly because I think they are the coolest looking vans for band use and travelling.

It's a frustrating process.  For starters, not many of them are advertised.  Secondly, those that are out there mostly seem to be either in a bad state of repair or in good condition but too expensive.

For example, here is one:
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/bedford-cfs-1975-12048128?__N=1246%201247%201252%201282%204294967091%201216 (http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/bedford-cfs-1975-12048128?__N=1246%201247%201252%201282%204294967091%201216)
It looks great - but would any of you pay $14k for it?

Are there secret Bedford sales shops? :-)  How negotiable are the prices on these running vans?

Hey Soakes  if its got no rust and fairly neat and tidy inside that price is coming close tp what it could be worth...
Ray & i poured easy $15 k into mine ans shes no show van...yet she was 99.9 % (very rare) rust free and been srtipped down and painted all over etc and had disc brake modifations...(see pics in galler y page 5 )
so the $!5k doenst include 6 months labour ...Thats only parts!
so if ur keen to be a bedford owner, go check it out properly and make him an offer that would make u both happy! u can pay $1500 - $4000 for a beddie but i can guarantee u gunna have to pour plenty $$$ if ur gunna use her as a daily drive! as most at that price are rust buckets or in my case i paid $1437 on ebay  as a stock standard beddie age 38 yrs old!  that has been fully restored...soooooooo you get what u pay for so if u want a decent rust free reliable van be prepared to pay for it up front or put in the hard yard with labour & $$.
most of us bugaites are bedophiles  ;D and dont notice the $$$ disapear into our vans as once they get under ur skin ur gone mate !  ;)  Hook line n sinker  :o  LOL !

Dont be in a hurry then and u never know what may come up on ebay or the trading post...theres been a good run of beddies since late last yr!
well thats my 10cents worth i know the other guys will prob have a word to say...

Mate i was in the same situation back in August last year.

i payed 3,500 for mine and have spent close to 8 all up now and still not on the road. It takes time these things dont happen over night as i have found out.

but like what most will say on this forum its all about delayed gratification.

good luck!  :D

Fixed.

OK, I will persevere and also keep an eye out here.  :P

I understand the "pouring money into it" thing.  I have an old tractor which requires work, although at least it doesn't have to be roadworthy...   ::)
