Thanks for the link I have just spent a couple of hours browsing 89 pages of photos. Lots of Kombis and a few Cfs.

I want some of this:

That was a great issue. Still have it along with a good few hundred other vans magazines from way back when.

G'day

I know these are not CFs but they are way cool. I haven't seen one done for a while.

Has anyone ever shortened a CF?

I don't think I ever seen one.

Yep, think David (Busy Kiwi) posted one on here.......

This was one at an old NZ van show years back. Sorry, was the only one I took.

According to one UK van website, the yellow van above (Abbreviation, famous UK show van) was exported to NZ in the late 80's..

Any of our Kiwi members know anything about this?

This one shown below lived in Christchurch a while back and may still be there. Last seen at the 1999 Van Nationals in Taupo where this pic was taken. I've done a search on the licence plate with the result that that plate isn't registered to a vehicle at this stage so the van well may be in the big CF garage in the sky. At that time it was owned by a member of Vanz Unlimited so maybe Jeff can shed some light on it's current whereabouts. I'm sure it's the same one in Rogue's photo.

I also heard that there was another in Dunedin, garaged and owned by a previous well known vanner. He was looking at restoring it so it may reapear sometime in the future. This may well be Abbreviation as the name rings a distant bell, but not sure.

Cheers,
Garry.

Maybe that's a solution for Busy seeing as he doesn't have the room at his new place for his current vans. Just make a smaller one.

That red one's still a bit big, though.. I'd like something a bit smaller:

Hey you guys are giving me ideas :D

Abbreviation came into the country white, still had the name but lost the colour. I remember it (and have a photo somewhere) back in the 80's at the old footroot flats theme park, the van was white witha couple of primer patches around the hinges. It was running a rover v8 with jag diff and had a cracked windscreen. It had the side door in the back and I think they were sunbird tail lights

Have never seen it since but have heard a few stories from it got written off (hit a truck or brick wall or something), has been stored somewhere, even heard it was sent to OZ

Hmm, the mystery deepens.. I think I have an old article on it, will dig it out.

Gidday,

To shed some light/ history on the shortened cf, black in rouges photo and red in garrys, yes it was a vanz unlimited van originally built by dave stockman in the 80s. Our club album has photos of it in white, then black and finally red as it is still today. Will post photos if I can get a scanner to work or I'll just re photograph with the digital camera and post, stay tuned, you know where. Is still owned by a club member and registration is on hold. sadly the van has deterioated due to rust. The body kit that is on it in the photos is the one we are using to make a mould of. At one stage it had a t top cut into the roof when it was white. Current owner plans to cut it into a trailer, but that might be on the never never list (gunnas, we all have em)

The other one you talk of was James Bryans shortened and chopped beddy, only ever saw it once at the van oddisy in 1992 in dunedin. James was going to power it with a 2ltr jap motor. Van was only ever tacked together and so far as i know still never progressed. My brother in law approached James about 10 years ago to see if he wanted to sell it, but it never eventuated. So might still be in storage somewhere in Dunedin awaiting finishing.

Anyhow will try to post pics later on
Cheers Jeff

Good grief.  I find this abbreviation just a bit weird.
How stable are these cars?

Thanks for the photos Busy! Jeez, imagine driving that with a V8 - not surprising if it hit a brick wall.

You would expect that from Chip Foose.

I watched that episode, they did a lot of tinkering with the suspension. I can't remember if they used drop spindles up front, but I think so.

G'day

There are a lot of "70s and 80's vans, murals and other USA stuff on there at the moment.

Definitely worth a look!
