Title: rust repairs
Post by: alice on February 07, 2012, 03:29:32 PM
hi everyone,
i've got some rust on my front passenger side wheel arch(i've tried to post photos, but computer says no....to big....)anyway i was wondering if anyone has ever tried cutting a section out of the back wheel arch on a wrecked body, and welding it onto the front section.if it works it would save alot time in fabricating the shape.
cheers alice.

Alice

While I havent done it personally, it is common to take a good section out of a donor vehicle and weld it into the BUGA'd one.

Its hard to tell what part your talking about without pics.

Currently the section for adding pictures directly into a post is full, but you can still load them into your gallery and then point to them in your posts.

Loading into your Gallery is good because you can do multipal files at once and it auto sizes them for you.

Is your rust anything like this

and this

Go Baz  ;D

Alice shaping the patches shouldn't be too hard for the gaurd inthe first pic, just shape it to fit over the gaurd and then when you have it fitting properly cut the rusted bit out and weld the new bit in.

As for arounf the hinge, that might be a bit harder, you may have to make it in sections, top and bottom , same again though try and shape the replacement panel before removing the rusted part.aybe do the bottom fist then the hinge mount section.
