Title: Gearstick idea
Post by: Bas / NZ on November 15, 2011, 04:24:35 PM
I guess this is one way of getting around the problem of the gearstick being to far back ;)

Another way is to use an old ball joint as the swivel with a rod going back to a fork around the original gearstick.
I've seen it done and it worked well.

Whoever did that has done something else under that box if it is still functional because there is no way that cross linking bar in the top picture is sitting under that box in the bottom picture.

While that linkage moves it forward, it's still not far enough forward for the beddy.

As I've posted before - whith less work you can mount it in the original location.

I am running a holden 4 speed box with standard holden selector and gear lever and repositioned it just behind the engine and directly above the cluth housing. (see photo)  To do this I had to turn the little gear selector arms on the gearbox upside down and then made up some toggling levers (see photo).  The problem you face is that the direction of the movemnet of gear selection is reveresed when you move the gear lever so far forward and so therefore this has to be corrected so that a push action in the cabin becomes a push action at the gearbox and not a pull action.

Ben, as far as I know the 6cyl box differs from the v8 version internally only, because I made up my linkage set up when I was running a holden 202 and just transfered the whole thing over to the V8 gearbox without any problems.   Bruce
