Wendy, under your bonnet is so clean and tidy! mine is a mess of wires hahah
I like that you have the booster support fitted, much better than not having one

My pleasure Jock!  ahhh Matt the support was also for the clutch cable...the orginal hole was getting worn...so Ray decided to give it extra strengh. thanx for ur compliment on engine bay....many hours of hard sanding went into it...like the rest of the body...sanding ...sanding...more bloody sanding..then at the end ray said maybe we should have got it soda blasted might have been cheaper !  >:(  i couldnt slapped him down   ;D anyway it was a labour of love doing up my beddie!

Do any of you guys who have done the torana/XB master cylinder remember how much the XB master cylinder cost you? A local brake mob is saying $320 for the cylinder and adapter? Does it need an adapter?

Is your original bedford booster & master cylinder in good nick I left all the original there on my setup & it works great

Repco.. Whatta rip off they are! Those kinda parts your better off sourcing from a brake distributor, I paid $150 from better brakes in cheltenham; I'm sure there would be a similar shops in other major cities. Anyways I got the lj booster xb master set up, works great. From memory I saw xb masters on evilbay for around the 180 mark, shop around, all those little savings add up.

And no adaptor needed. Holes in firewall need to be elongated for booster and so do bolt holes on master. Easy done

Hi ahh

Ray got the master cylinder at trade price for $180. doesnt need an adaptor.as it wont fit under the bonnet...all u need to do is elongate the two holes in the master cylinder and adjust the push rod in the booster shorter.
thats it!

'Mission' is the correct word mate! It's a lot of hunting and gathering but will be worth it.

Don't tell me you're getting the lines pre flared and bent and all you have to do is fit them? You lucky sod! I will be bending and flaring them myself...

I was originally a little concerned about width, thought it might not fill out the flares but once it was in it was bang on! Very happy with the width, should travel well when it's all finished.

Good luck with the brakes tomorrow mate.

that place i put u onto =berts brakes does the brake lines as well.
they are cheap as.
just take the old lines in or give them the sizes.

its not worth the drama doin them yourself.
plus there is warrantee if the brake place does them.

Marty,

The problem I have is that the brake lines and the van are 4 hours away! A real challenge in this project! What I am currently doing is gathering all the bits and driving to the van, working on it for a couple of days then driving back to Sydney.

Will probably go back to Burts brakes this week and get all the other bits I need, flared nuts etc

Hey jock ...
from memory was about 30-40mm i had cut off the Brake push rod...

Brake place did that for me too. 8)

Yep ..all i have to do is bolt em on.... ;D

Its a mission but will be great to finally have good brakes again..

Replaced my rear bearings today too...seals had busted and had oil pissing out all over my rear wheels.
.good for rustproofing ...not so good for braking..

is the 3rd time in 2 years though....deeep dish wheels an a banjo diff width..give them a punishing...

Any one got a swb Hwy diff? haha 8)

If you guys have to cut/trim bits on old technology, why not do it to late model stuff.

my standard van is running the commodore booster combo, i just shortened the main rod that goes to pedal
custom van is running a toyota booster combo (might be windom) but I did recess that into the firewall a little (only to make it look cleaner).

Using newer stuff can be cheaper and better (for stopping), also easy to get. a lot of modern vans and cars are coming out with tiny set ups and powered by fast 4, V6, V8 of which all could out power a bedford in reverse

well its Done!!

finally bolted it all together today....and bled the brakes..STOPS!!! SWeeet....

-a Final note..

Mods u will need to do are.....

-Firewall holes had to be elongated to fit Torana Booster...

-XB Master Cylinder holes elongated to fit onto LJ Booster

-Brake Pushrod-(Plunger Function) had to be shortened by 30mm and retapped..

-new brake lines -from front to bedford T piece...

and Rears from Master Cylinder to Junction (half way along chassis rail)

-XB master has 2 Fr brake outlets.
1. needs to plugged.
2. the Brake fail switch hole-or put a dummy sensor in there or plug it up too

The whole Brake Mod
all up cost me bout $550..was quoted $900 for parts Stoked!!
happy now ..can finally move onto some body work for the ol gal..

Happy Vanning

Marky,

Why did you plug one of the FR brake outlets?

I think I am going to run one to each front wheel and only plug the brake fail switch.
Looks like Wendy only plugged the brake fail switch:
