Title: Best transportation for LWB
Post by: atk1 on September 03, 2008, 05:19:26 AM
Hey guys, gotta pick up a 74 LWB CF from Wellington NZ and take it many many hours north . It has no motor/gearbox but a very straight body. I have a mint 308 Holden to put in. Anybody got any transporting tips? Im thinking of hiring this trailer...

I towed my old SWB (which had tridents) on something similar about 10 years ago and remember it only just fit width wise. According to the LWB dimensions on the CF facts page it should fit on the trailer but maybe over hang a little front and back. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

All depends on how standard it is. If It's a dual wheel jumbo you'll have problems with the width, single wheel should fit if it has stock wheels fitted. If it has flared guards you may have a problem as well as those side rails on the trailer look pretty high and may rip the guards. A stock standard single wheel jumbo should fit.

Thanks, everything is standard execpt it has tridents which Id say are 7" wide. I looked at the local branchs trailer and it differs slightly - side rails not as high wihich is good. Just the lenght maybe a concern

This interests me alot too as soon mine will need to be transported.  I'm thinking my mates flatbed should be ok but haven't yet taken measurements and made sure it'll be ok, got skinny wheels which look shocking with the flares at the moment

i hired one of those trailers to pic up a bedy and had to cut of the side step to get it on the trailer, just fitted, wide wheels and or flares would be a problem i reckon  stevo 8)

if you are travelling a long way to do the pickup then I strongly recommend that you take a full set of standard bedford wheels and dont forget the wheel nuts , Ben and his dad and I had a lot of hassle fitting a van with dragways and flares onto a stock tandem trailer, I also strongly recommend that you take extra suitable timber boards to assist loading the van should the trailer ramps be too short and the van bottoms out when loading, all that aside I would be concerned with the length of a lwb on a stock tandem, would pay you to do some homework before you get there, checking the trailer length and lwb length .... can you measure the trailer length and post it here? maybe one of the lwb owners can measure their van and compare the measurements for you ....  good luck with it
