Back in the days of Beddie the First (80's) I just plugged in a HK GTS instrument cluster and wired it to the the standard Beddie sender. It was just as accurate as the Beddie guage, which is to say that I kept an eye on the odo and filled up every 400 k's or so ;D.
It cycled about the same as our '98 Vienta does - slow and steady until a 1/4 tank, then dropping like it had a brick tied to it.

This is funny, we buy a Bedford because its a Bedford, but we want to change everything and make it something else other than a Bedford. Hay I'm one of those people too.............. :D

Now that you mention it - Beddie the First only shared the basic shape bequeathed by Vauxhall ;D
Motor, disc brakes, gearbox, highway diff, halogen headlights, dash including guages, interior - hang about - I kept the heater!! (after I fixed the fan)
But it's all about the shape, isn't it. Classic

Craig, mine is a HZ statesman dash, and when the petrol tank is overflowing, the gauge reads 3/4 full, works well enough for what i need as i mainly use gas..
Hope that helps

Back in my day we used to use sticks as fuel gauges (and I'm only 40 lol)
If the stick is wet you happy, if it dry you got problems.
Nowadays people use fancy top dollar weather gizmos, but nothing beats my weather rock.
If it's wet - it's raining
If it's dry - the day is nice
If it's frozen - theirs a frost
If it's gone - batten down the hatches we got a hurricane

Some of the very early ones I have seen include,HZ,XC,HT<K<G,HQ Centura and statesman.
Out of the box ones include Landcruiser 45 series,Mini Moke(apparantly electrics are are perfect match) Morris Major,57 Chev and a cut down Acco truck dash.
I really liked my Chrysler CM dash but the van was running a 318,auto and P76 diff.
It was in when I bought it and Aisat in Welshpool got all the gauges working for me so I had no issues what so ever.
Bugga, I wish I could get it back!
:'(I know I am a brocken record on this but some of the hotrod gear available could easilly be adapted.
28,32,34 clusters,F100 and Chev pickups likewise.
There was a nice Easy roller dash setup using a Mercedes Cluster some years back to.

I like the dash Dano is making, waiting to see it finished. These days, sender units and wiring looms can all go after market, as well as gauges. then it can look classic, classy, sports or shit. Its all up to us :o ::) ::)

Cheers Rossie, wont be long now as I'm flat strapped trying to put the donk / wiring/dash together as we speak..... gotta get it running as will have to move house very shortly and the new shed is up a hill..... don't have enough strong friends to push her up and in lol....mind you Craig should be able to do it by himself with those "guns" he's been working on, "cool !....off to get a supervisors slab"
Craig.... remember i had a hz GTS once apon a time all i did was change a few dash light bulb fittings, for the obvious, the fuel gauge works in reverse, as the polarity of the sender is reversed( I think from memory) but your new best friend is aisat in wheelshpool, they'll sort what ever you fit/what etc ....and a speedo cable mob in east vic park somewhere....
but personally time to update....... go retro we have an auto sparky at our fingure tips and a electric engineer (in his words) but a prettty good sparky as well.

When it comes to wiring
Those universal after market kits are great, I use them on bikes all the time (X 3). If, when or may be , I'll use one on the van
