Title: New headlights for custom CF1!
Post by: outriding on May 06, 2011, 07:39:24 AM
Hi guys, I just came across these cool headlights with the turn signal incorporated into it!
It's great if your doing some custom work, you can get rid of silly turn signal lights for a cleaner look.
Just wanted to point it out  8)

Id Like to upgrade my sealed beam headlights in my 76 CF bedford with something a lot Brighter..Im told
you can use Morris Minor Headlights is that true? If So what part numbers to you look for in Supercheap or Auto barn etc?

Are they a straight plug and go exchange or is there some extra fiddling to be done?

Cheers

A simple fix is to get Hella H4 headlights and some quartz helogen bulbs.

The H4 fit into the original headlight holders and have better lenses and light dispersion than the old sealed beams.

I would also suggest running relays on the headlights to take away the power going through the dimmer switch.

i just changed mine over to h4 headlights and some new globes from supercheap, think they were calibre brand. I havent noticed much difference in brightness, still got a dull yellow light, not sharp white
is there anything else that needs to change. As far as i know mine was stock before hand

Either you have a bad earth or are not getting enough amps to the globes. Realise that a 100 watt globe will pull 100/12 amps (watts/volts = amps)- or nearly 9 amps.

So go get yourself some DECENT wire, minimum 25 amp (or 5 mm), several relays and beef up your wiring. I would run a new feed from the starter motor or battery, with a new fuse.  DON'T RUN THE UPRATED GLOBES THRU THE STANDARD SWITCH, that's what relays are for!
Second, make sure the earth is good.
Third, enjoy being able to see where your going.

Enjoy (& cheers)
