Ok so it rained last night, and even after replacing the windscreen seal, i still have a puddle forming in my cabin. On the plus side, i noticed this now before i go putting all the interior back in.
I had the windscreen removed and re-installed by a 3rd party when i got my paint and panel done, so i don't know how he re-installed it, but does anyone know the best way to fix the leaks?
Also, i'm about to put in all new weather seals for all 5 doors, I've been told superglue will damage the seals. Does anyone know the best product to use for this? Thanks
-
Put them on with the original clips it's a bitch of a job but its better in the long run None of those glues even the one made for the job last the hot weather softens the glues & they fall off
-
i dont think they came with any clips, and all my old clips are busted. Wouldn't water still get in between the clips. I woulda thought the bead of glue would give a more water tight fix
-
I had a leak last week it turned out that the water was getting in past the rubber seal where the windscreen wiper drive protruded through the panel under the windscreen, might be worth a check

You can buy the clips new at Autobarn or supercheep come in those plastic packets of 10 or so I f you use the correct rubbers when the door is shut the rubber is tight against both surfaces
-
Hey Arron, i hate to say this, and i may be mistaken, but i have yet to find a way of waterproofing a beddy 100%. For some reason water seems to find a way into a beddy. My advice would be, and i am going to do this on mine, check and make sure all doors and glass seals are tightly fitted, and if you have access holes in your fire wall and under bonnet, seal up any holes you dont need. Use the correct grommets. I recon a lot of water comes from access holes more so then through your windscreen and glass seals. Good luck mate.

Check the windscreen wiper stems as water can come in through there as well.

Thanks guys for all your comments. had moderate rain all night and my passenger footwell has a puddle the size of a dinner plate. Sure a small leak is part of the character but this is a bit more serious.
I Killrust-ed and painted the floor pan, so hopefully this will at least keep the water from rusting the metal
-
hey J.I.A. sounds like the wipers particularly if they were removed for painting, there is a soft grommet between the hard plastic and panel and that disntergrates over time, perhaps it was sraped off prior to painting? on another note I see you mention killrust on the floor, is that colour same as your van being 'pewter'? I am thinking of taking th eplunge and going the $80 paint job using pewter killrust all over, that will see it similar colour to yours only in very very very el cheapo. something different I thought and quick with a mind its not a show van ... hey Wazz checked the prices 4 litres Killrust now at $80 ;)

Hi mate,
Gotta agree about the wiper pivots as suggested below. In relation to the glue, speak with an upholsterer. They use a 'brush on' contact glue and it sticks really, really well.
Also, you can buy the front door rubbers from "Denny's" in Lismore (and other upholsterers sometimes) in a blank length that you can trim to size. I bought some from them after I stuffed one of the ones I bought from Rare Spares previously. Same profile and same rubber and cheaper!!!
Cheers

Hey guys, firstly, i took the wiper arms off for painting, but not the grommets, but they are pretty perished. I can see a section of windscreen up the top that has a large gap, wondering if this is just running down through the rubber and seeping out the inside. Will need to wait till next rain to have a look. I'm gonna put the door rubbers in this weekend, so after that i might just spray it with a hose for 20mins and see what happens
My grey is Protec "Graphite" and looks exactly the same as Killrust - Cold galv spray, when its wet, but obviously coldgal dries a lot lighter. Probably not to different to the stratco fencing dark grey come to think of it
-
HEY
Where did you get the door rubbers from thanks
Joe
-
yeah good question, I need to get some too.
did you use generic rubbers from "Clark Rubber" or "Fitch the rubber man"?
that is my plan at the moment, unless someone has a source for Bedford rubbers.
-
When i got my rubbers last, i got them from a guy called STREETERS, at browns plains, i will give them a ring shortly and see if they still carry them. All up i paid something like $300 odd for 3 doors and windscreen. Let you know how i go.
Hey Arron, watch the council buddy, they may cringe at you running your hose for that long on the beddy. ;D ;D

Hi guys, Denny's upholsterers in Lismore NSW. Abt $30 per door in a continous roll that you cut to size. Dunno about postage but if I can help anyone out let me know lengths etc and i'll see if i can get you an exact price.
i'm without computer access for most of next week though so don't hang around waiting for me to respond for about a fortnight. Denny's also have a web page if you wanted to contact them direct.

Ive covered all the upolstery walls, ceiling, door seals ..the lot with Quick grip..love it,dont get stoned on it,but still love it,lol!

I bought the seal door "kit" form rare spares(Doors only$230?)..NIGHTMARE too install >:(!!
No instructions, rare spares didnt have a clue as all odd length became confusing?
Had to get the number off rare spares to the supplier in Adelaide, old bloke (Supplier)didnt know how to help me put them inn over the phone,he was confused to,lol,my brothers scratched thr heads n walked off with the shits after two hours,lol..No instructions, not molded in one piece like i thought, just freakn strips of rubber(2kinds) and work it out for yourself, dont use super glue as they say to..doesnt work at all!
Finally did it myself, looks dodgy but no leaks, all doors close after 78 TRYS..arrrrgh!
Never again,
>:(
