Title: Chroming
Post by: jesus_is_alright on April 10, 2011, 08:22:55 AM
Hi, i just got quoted $750+gst and a 4 week wait for chroming my 2 front bumpers and 2 rear bumperettes. Ouch. I knew it was expensive but still, ouch.
Thoughts?
Is it worth the cash to get them re-chromed, or should i just polish them with something?
Is this price reasonable?
Does anyone have a mate that can get this done cheaper?
Thanks

Powdercoating is a fraction of the cost and same amount of time.

I have a guy near me that did work on my hummer toolbox, his prices are reasonable. I just had a gloss black done, but different treatments and colours/textures i guess are priced differently. It's one option.

I may be wrong, but croming should not cost that much if the bumperettes are in good nick :o

rossie, its not just a case of dipping the item into a chrome bath, they have to have 3 layers, I think one is nickle.

Mate just got his '68 firebird bumper done - $1200

first the old plating is stripped then the metal is polished - this is where the money is - better the polish better the job as any blemish shows in the chrome then the plating starts
