don't forget photos
have been planning on this same mod since adam and eve where frolicking in the garden
want dual headlight and full length grill, sort of cross between VAN 000 and TABU
currently looking for a friendly retired/semi retired panelbeater to fit steel panel where a window is, seal up back doors and fit toyota crown taillights, don't know if the budget will stretch as far as the nose yet!
Why do I want an old guy? because (and I don't mean to piss anyone off here) they are craftsmen who get off on custom work not just panel replacers plus they are not going to think this is the great unknown and think of an absurd price then triple it

have to stick up for the panelbeaters

Age isn't really an issue, you just have to find someone that has a passion for it, agree a lot are panel replacers but it's the passion.
I know a lot of panelbeaters (cause i was one) and 95% of them wouldn't attempt let alone start a big project like mine even if it was an open purse job. Some are stubborn too, like me now, I wont work on VW's, MG's or ferraris if i can help it cause am sick of them and hate them, if I do i up the price.

Hey vintage - the Torana looks great but why didn't you just go for a Monaro? The HK had a bit of style I always thought - maybe coz it was my first car though...  :D
I did get blown away at the lights by hot Toranas too often so I hope you're doing a flash job on the rear end?  ;D

hey vintage, i know the Monaro has nothing to do with beddy's, but here goes, besides having a passion for bedfords i also have a passion for monaro's. To buy a stock monaro today you need a fortune, i would love a HQ, or HX  LE [limited edition] 2 door, for me there is no such thing as a 4 door monaro. lol. I have been looking at the idea of getting a 4 door kingswood or monaro and converting it to a 2 door, everyone says what i know, what a big job, you need to get it to look authentic, so no one has offered to do the job. So i keep looking for that orphaned shell sitting around in someones drive. Oh well one day.  ;D So far this is the closest i have come to getting my monaro, this is 1:18 scale, i have every monaro ever made in my collection.

Yeh, i know a secret to, there are hundreds of monaros here in qld, no one is selling.  ;D I parked near a hk monaro a few years ago, it was barely legal, and i waited and finally asked him if he would sell it, he said yes, $10,000. It was worth about 4 or $5000. Every panel needed to be replaced, expensive. So no sale. It was not my first choice of model so.

about 15yrs ago when i was buying my first car....i had a choice of 3 cars (in darwin) 1/ A 4dr torana (SLR's were all the rage) 2/ The exact same Monara as in the picture (same colour everything) ONLY it was completely in pieces, and i mean completly...so it would have taken a while to put together (and i wanted to drive)....or 3/ A lime Green Nissan C20 van, in pretty good nick, regoed etc...and ofcourse the closest thing to a bedford i could find/afford......I went the Nissan......if ONLY i had of been patient:( ID BE RICHHHHHH.

Hey George its not that easy to 2 door a sedan (I did a 2 door hx statesman ) the Monaro screen is 2 inch shorter the incline angle is different and the doors are fatter at the belt line if i was going to do it agaian i would start with a 2 door shell and graft a HQ Statesman rear on it   Maybe after i finish BLACKBEDI Hmmmmmmmm

Also the rear window raps around the side , and the 4 doors have more of a flat window. There is a lot of work, but when you can not buy one then thats the only option. Here in qld a registered monaro, basic, with mags, i have seen them for $30,000-00 and up. Everytime i see one in a yard now i check to see if it is for sale, especially if its in a yard where people display cars for other people to sell. Something we have a lot of here, where we live everyone is on acerage, so people put their cars, boats caravans, you name it, for sale. Oh well one day, i will find one that has not been turned into a drag car, or a monster motor sticking through the bonnet, i just want the shell, and from there i will build it up, i already have a chassis, grill, nose cone in the workshop, just need to mate it with a hot body.
These pics are my 2 options.

Hey George...I was reading our local "Quokka" (trading post equivilent) and some guy here is selling a HK Monaro 95% complete but get this, no motor box or ID TAGS and he still wants $22,800 :o :o
Shall i tell him he's dreamin? :-\ :-\
Title: Re: bedford van with hj/hx/hz front..
Post by: Bedfordcrazy on December 31, 2010, 11:42:35 AM
Hey johnno, he is dreaming, and i will tell you why, now a days if you have the shell, [firewall to rear bumper] you can buy aftermarket panels, stamped replicas to bolt onto the shell. Stamped panels like front gaurds, bonnets, boot lids, fluted guards, glass, trims, and from there all your brakes and bits you can get from rocket and other hotrod joints. His price does not surprise me.
We have a company here in brissy, and they sell complete factory stamped replica bodies and panels for some of the historical cars. The stamping is done in taiwan, shipped here and you can buy a complete XY falcon, 68 camaro, there are about 4 bodies they do at the moment, i am holding out for them to do the monaro, and the beauty is with them, they will build the car for you, or you can buy one panel a week till you have a complete car. I hear that when these cars are done, you have a hard time seeing the difference between real and replica.
BAD NEWS,  my understanding is that we will never see beddy parts, because the guy that owns the rights to the bedford image refuses to sell, give or lone the image for replication, which is why we see almost no dicast bedfords, and never will in 1:18 scale, just matchbox and the like, of which i am lucky to have one of.  ;D We can hope he goes broke and sells or loans out the rights one  day.mmmmm  Here is the one I have, its as close as you will get without being sued for copyright infringement.

George.

who owns the writes?

and why would he hold onto them so tightly?
Title: Re: bedford van with hj/hx/hz front..
Post by: Bedfordcrazy on December 31, 2010, 02:47:49 PM
Good question ben, all i know is the guy bought the rights from vauxhaul years ago, and he is a real hard arse, he just will not part with the rights to the bedford image, i dont think it has anything to do with the love of the beddy, for him it is just a business thing. So how do i know, well we were talking about diecast on here early in the year, so i contacted a mate who is high up in the diecast world, so high that he can pick up the phone and talk to any ceo of a car company and they talk to him, nice if you have that power, anyway, he talked to a couple of people for me and came back with that response, regarding copyright, he told me that the diecast companies like biante and others will not do a beddy if they can not do an EXACT replica, it wont sell and they wont do near enough is good enough, so he said to me that the minute anything changes and they can do a beddy in 1:18 he will let me know.
