gday mate whats the go with this van, is it for sale? location?
alex
-
already sold and bought......now under restoration as we speak.....you'll have to go to the next Van Nats to see her (I believe) there is a sneak preview in the gallery somewhere , i think James/ Mystic Fantasy owns her- Can't wait to see her restored meself. ;)
-
I hope it gets restored to how it was, that would bring back a lot of good memories back for people
-
Does anyone know if james is photographing his build on the van for us to see a piece of van history happening. Is he restoring it to the freedom machine, or doing a new custom van.
george.
-
restoring i think
-
pretty sure he would be restoring it to hay day specs , he has a bit of a van museum a believe, and any classic he can get his hands on he keeps.
-
wow those back wheels are super wide. i mean i know they're probable 15x10's but they stick way out there. Not even one of Ben's flare kits would cover those
-
Hey guys, the van is finally about to get painted. Don't bother ever asking if i will sell it as that will not happen for a long long time, cant wait to get it home
-
which way did you go James, resto or ur own custom? nice work Bud! will we see any pics or (better) have to come to the WA nats??
-
I am going back to all original. It is completely in highfill now, will try to get to panel shop this week to find out when the colour is going on.
-
I am hoping to bring it to the WA nats. see how my funds are but that is my intention.
I have been taking photos when i get the chance
This is actually the Easy Roller. It had Freedom Machine stickers on it because one of the previous owners prefered that name, he sold it to the guy i bought it off and later he built a transit van and called that Freedom Machine as well.
cheers
James
-
Memories, thanks James, that is a top shot of the freedom machine. I dont care if it's a transit or a VW Beetle, there is only one freedom machine, and its a bedford.
Tell me james, i watched a movie called roadgames the other day, the roller in that, do you know anything about it, was it built just for the movie or was it someones van, lent out for the movie. Is it still around, or was it really crushed in the movie.
george.

Hey George,
Best you look at the photo again, this is the Easy Roller, not the Freedom Machine. The main Bedford known as the Freedom Machine was the previous 3xy and Coca Cola give away. It was a white Bedy with manta flares on the rear and had multi coloured stripes along the sides and other body mods. Believed to be now destroyed, was living down the Mornington Peninsular area for many years. I believe i saw it about 10 years ago on my way back through NSW, was missing a few add ons but i am sure this photo was it.
Never seen the movie you talk about, will have to get it and have a look, will try to do it on the weekend.
cheers
James

One more Easy Roller pic for you, by the way these are original photos taken of the photo shoot back in 1979 for the promotion of the vans

I was offered this van a few years back....it was owned by a young guy from victoria...Most unfortunately it ended up at Brunswick Motor WReckers near Byron ...iwent to get some parts of it a 2nd time but it waqs sadly sent to the crushers RIP

I can remmember a easy roller goimg around Ballarat, they ended up painting it purple. Or was it a fake, this was about 15 years back
-
Rossie, the one you are talking about just had a kit on it, it belonged to a friend if mine, was the best bedford i have ever been in and handled like a race car, don't know what happened to him or the van, he was in Ballarat, that is also where i found the Easy Roller
-
your right, is a real nice looking van, any pics of it inside and other angles.
george
-
dunno what happened to all my pics of it, maybe its on my other computer, it did have a built in tailgate tent so when he lifted the tailgate the bed extended out and had a canvas tent all around it, very well done. Shane once said to me he was thinking of chopping the back off and turn it into a duel axle, don't know if he ever did.
-
James, if you do have any photo's of this van I'd also love to see em, I at one stage couldn't decide between the 'pasion purple" or the green I went with. i wanted the purple but the fav was the green, and I finally managed to get a good shot of the colour the other day......Can you remember the drive train by any chance??
-
found a couple of photos, will scan them and post in a day or so, i cant remember what motor it had but it was an 8, pretty sure it was a 350
-
thats the purple one, if you know his name l try and track him down. Knowing Ballarat, it's proberbly jammed in a shed some where. If l remember, he was in the building trade.
-
His name was Shane, cant remember his last name, i think he may of moved interstate

Was the owner, (shane) ever in a band? into heavy metal? if so i remember going for a ride in this van not long after he got it. From memory he got it from the wimmera area
At the time it was rough, and there was about 9 of us in the back area
-
Yes his name was Shane, still is I guess, lol and from Ballarat
