ooooooops.

thats the first time i have seen that door reversed, seen a lot of other set-ups but first for this. Interesting.

legalities?????
-
i guess it would need a backup lock or catch just in case someone opened it in full flight. One reason sucide doors never really took off in production cars.
george.
-
i just cant work out why you would need it to open the other way

nice job of it
-
Hey grandad, thats an easy question to answer. Because you can. The Q. i would be asking is why would you sell your beddy. lol
george.
-
add says deceased estate. wish someone would leave me a beddy in they will
-
Hey guys, thats my new beddie, and yes i did notice the backwards-ness, was gonna ask you guys about it
the plus side is i can open the passenger door whilst the side door is open
the down side is i cannot get it to lock properly. I lock it in the morning, and when i get to work its unlocked..?
Hasn't opened by itself yet though.
Oh and if you look really close, the door handle is the same, just upside-down (and not in line with the passenger door)
I asked the seller and he swears it was like that from factory (perhaps a custom option)
I am seriously considering re-hanging it the "normal" way
-
the lock would riggle loose (unlocked) - gravity.
To fix it, turn the handle around and have it above the lock mech.
the upside down door handle shows its not factory.

have you still got your old van shouldnt be that hard to take the door off that van and swap it over
-
theres a reason there called suicide doors......
-
mmmmm, door unlocking it self...... deceased sale.... spooky ;D
if this pack of beddyfiles have never seen a reverse side door then i doubt its factory.
-
TURN IT INTO A GULWING DOOR, THEN IT OPENS UP. ;D the door must be confused on what is the correct way to open, at least they got the door the right way up when they changed it..................
-
If i was you i would take this chance to remove all your beddy handles and fit commodore handles, its a simple job. That way you will be the only van NOW that has a reverse door, and handles that you can get parts for over the counter, have a look at my van in my gallery, mine work as smoothe as if they were factory fitted. If your door does not leak, and it sits in it's opening correct i would leave it as is.

-
I've seen a couple like that in the past - not sure if its factory or not.

Ive got 2 side rear suicide doors on my van/ute. I use a drivers door handle and catch etc for the passenger side suicide door and vice versa

The old van is on ebay and finishes tonight, i'm selling it complete
i want to keep the old handles and for saftey sake i'm gonna rehang it
The only problem i see with gulwing doors is what if i park next to a 4wd at the shops? i cannot open my side door.
Plus having to replace gas struts is another problem in itself
-
Benny can correct me if i'm wrong here, but if you take a lot of the weight out of the door, and use heavey duty struts, they should last for years between changes, and struts basically just pop out of their ball joint, simple to change out.
george.
-
The weight of a standard door without glass is fine. Even with a window in, the extra weight is closer to the hinge so should have minimal impact. Standard gas shocks from the rear door of a Hi-ace or an L300 are more than sufficient. The big trick is the angle you mount them on.

Yes they last a while, but when they do go its at the most inconvenient time
-
hey mate, a spark plug, bearings and engines can all go at anytime, what are you going to do, not buy a car, not do up your van, a light bulb can go at night, how inconveniate is that, what do you do stop driving at night. Mate if the jobs done right and you keep things serviced, then they will last as long as they are expected to.

hey rogue.. is that a ceilin hook top right of piccy, holdin that side door up really ??? ??? bit of th ol bodge n scarper photography eh mate ;)

"Yes they last a while, but when they do go its at the most inconvenient time"
like a wheel bearing 4am!

Maybe but it's only a door shock at the end of the day and just a minor inconvenience till you can replace it. Certainly not in the same league as a wheel bearing.
