Hi guys,
I've been looking at buying a van for ages now and I think I might have found one!
The only problem is I only have my auto licence and the van is a manual.
Does anyone know the average cost of changing a 202 manual to auto?
I've been trying to get in contact with JB Auto in Dandenong, Victoria for a quote but can't get in contact with him (Joe).
The van itself is well within my budget just need to know if I can afford it all.
Any help? or contacts in Victoria?
Nick :)

hey mate, it's very easy to do
call any early model holden wreckers and you'll find the parts you need at a good price.
The only thing im not 100% sure on is if the tailshaft lengths are the same between holden H series and a bedford, but if not it's very easy and reasonably cheap to get a tailshaft modified.

it'll b a shite load easier gettin ya manual licence, and chaeper, good luck! ;)

I knew someone would say that :)
After my P's I can drive manual anyway but I still prefer Auto. I can drive manual but I like Auto simple as that.
Thanks for the help so far.

I'll get on now and update it.

Nick, go for it, easy swap, now the other way around is a lot more trouble. Need to remove the bearing in the back of the gear ring (heat it up) and replace with a auto bush. lose a pedal, and driveshaft modifiy, kick down set up on carb, crossmember not sure but will be easy to make fit, trans oil cooler or swap to auto raidiator.

should not have to change drive shaft..
-
I think ben, the drive shaft needs to be shorter.

hey Bas, i made the same mistake, but fortunately my comments were relevant to both conversions.. he wants to do a manual to auto conversion - not an auto to manual conversion..
but anyway, bas if you were talking about heating up the spigot bearing to get it out, there is an easier way.. get a bolt a bit bigger than the size of the spigot shaft and grind the end down a bit so you can screw it in, then you can just pull/wiggle it out..

all the ones iv done 4 iv never had to change the length

I guess it depends what manual box is in the car.
Mine has been shortened for the 5-spaad, so I need to get it lengthened back to fit the trimatic. The diff is also different so a stock one wont work.

That's because all your Beddies are factory fitted with the 202in Aus, in NZ they are not. They do fit but the drive shafts have very little / not enough free play ( pull back to driving head) as they should when you fit them.

my mate nows someone that works from home and that all he does is shortens or extend tail shafts i have mine there atm getting shortened
