hey petrol, i know a company here in bris that does all that sort of thing, even records to cd. or you could pick up a $60 dvd recorder and a video recorder, 2 cables and do it yourself.

you can buy a video capture card for your pc.

then you load in the software, hook up you cable from your "video out" and hit record on your computer.

once its on your computer you can use any old dvd burning program to make it a dvd.

that way the money you would have given the mob to do it for you is instead turned into a ongoing usable card in you pc.

i think they start at about the $50 mark.... i would spend a little more though.

There is only one problem, a lot of you don't know about my condition, I have a brain tumor which has paralised me down my left side and the medication that seems to be keeping me alive(25 tablets & 7 needels a day) has given me diabetes, osterporosis and I'm now developing cataracts because of this I now reside in the Brightwater aged care facility in Waikiki.  I'm only 45 years of age and I think the  youngest resident here so I have to rely on other people to do things for me.

im sorry to hear about your condition petrolhead. i had no idea.

i take care of my daughter as she had a medulloblastoma
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medulloblastoma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medulloblastoma)

she lost her eye sight and has limited mobility and will have ongoing side effects for life including fertility and growth problems.. she has also some i.q loss.

i spent one year by her side while my wife and other children battled to keep the house and feed themselves 100 kilometers away. she had six weeks radio therapy on the head and spine and nine months intensive chemo including super strong chemo that required transfusions of stem cells to undo the harm the chemo did to her veins. we nearly lost her more then once while others lost their battle all around and in front of us.

from someone that was inside that life night and day for over a year and has been dealing with the aftermath for three years.... good luck mate!

G'day

My sympathies as well. I know it is a bit hard to explain to others how it is.
My wife has a degenatrive blood disorder that makes life very difficult for her and everyone around her.
She takes a lot of time money and focus, which doesn't leave much for anything else.

People can appear abrupt or even cruel when they don't know what is really going on, but generally most are OK when they know
There is a saying that helps make it all tolerable:
"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, but spiritual beings having a human experience."

You could try the local school or computer club. VHS to DVD is very easy and cheap nowadays so there would be a few people around that could do it.

Hey mate, if you can be bothered with a road trip alot of television stations will do it for a resonable fee with good quality(as some products will digitalise the analogue VHS cassettes better than others).

I'd give a few places a ring and go drop it all off, and pickup a bucket full of dvds a few days later

Jilly bean, I'll be waiting with baited breath thanks for that.

able,  sorry to hear about your daughter I hope things improve for the better. After they removed the first tumor I had to under go radiotherapy tablet chemotherapy then I.V. chemotherapy, I can understand why they call these treatments kill or cure, they nocked me around a bit so imagine a child going through the same thing.

Matte,  I can't walk no more but I do have a good electric wheel chair, have ramps will travel, disable are able!

Don't worry about me because I've got the doctors and specialists baffled as in August 2007 they gave me 6-12 months to live and I'm still here, so I must be here for a reason and every day is a good day

I dont know about anyone else, but when i lost my eye in the crash that took my legs, they did all the tests to see why my eye is blind. There is no reason, except to say that when my van rolled on its side, my head was smashed against the B pillar and the road, which has demaged the nerves. Well they have got me on a stem cell list, but who knows when the politicians will green light the start of treatment. I know i will never get my legs back, but to get my sight back in my right eye would be great. And by all reports i would probably see again with stem cell. It would probably cure most illnesses, so people get your ass into gear and allow the treatment.

As a person who has been intrinsicly involved in children's charities just on 20 years, I have never found a group of 'strangers' to be so humble and open to each other in a public forum like this BuGA site. The generosity of people here is very genuine and I thank you for sharing such personal thoughts. Stay positive guys.

you guys help more then you know.

i received help from "very special kids" and "challenge" and that help kept me going some days.

being time poor afterward i often thought of how to repay these kind people who donate their time and hearts to those who found themselves in these most horrid situations.

i remember visiting smith family in geelong organizing something for my child's school and they asked if my daughter would like a toy... they took us to a room where they had several tables of toys, books, puzzles and i helped my daughter with her selection.

the worker stated that they do not know what to do with all these left over donated items as they were moving and the new place had limited space and it was just after Christmas and the donations would start poring in again.

in a instant i was talking before i had completely worked out a plan... "i will take them to Melbourne and make sure every single item gets to a child with cancer"! i said.

she looked at me and looked at my daughter and said "why didn't we think of that? ".

the next day i had my Mitsubishi so full of toys and games and books that i had only room for my self.

their eyes bulged when they seen all the things squashed up against the windows of my van. i was packed to the roof and under every seat. it took two cars to load up all the toys from my van when the good people from challenge met me in the royal children car park.

i was father Christmas that day.... it was a good day and im not ashamed to say i wiped away a tear after the two cars drove away post hand shakes and thanks.... it only cost me a tank of petrol to know that i was instrumental in over 100 smiles on the faces of those who need to smile the most.

I don't own a video player and the other reason I want to convert them to DVD is to preserve them. I'd really like to watch these movies again so who can come to my rescue?

just an idea, but try the local school (collage). l did this a couple of years back to use their milling machine, the teachers love it (the beer) and they welcome me back ;D

What you forget Rossie is that I can't get out much anymore as I can't walk and only have use of a electric wheelchair which they have to use a hoist to put me in it and  to go anywhere I have to call a special taxi that is able to take electric wheel chairs and that is before you make a dozen calls to find out if where you are going is wheel chair friendly

whereabouts is baldivis? i'm sure theres someone close by that'd be willing to do the running around in their free time.
If it's north past clarkson i'm likely to go past there on a few occasions over the coming weeks.
If its south past mandurah i don't know when i'll be out there next, but if you find the place to take them to, i'll happily pick them up to drop off next time im out that way
