I remeber when we had a crank handle phone, we were on a party line, our number was 309, and you had to listen to the ring tones to tell if it was for us or not "2 shorts and a long" was ours.
You had to crank the handle to ring the bell for the operatore to answer you and connect you through.
Now I surf the web on my phone :)

That's right Jeff, back before electronics, and you could fix things when they broke!
But what a different world it was, without TV, cell phones and computers.

John, You put two pennys in the slot and dialled. when the person answered you had to push button A for them to hear you. This then gobbled up your tuppence. But if no one answered you could push button B and get your money back.
We used to thump them too, and sometimes it would give you tuppence.
-
