Title: Ben's Fibreglass Site Shop.
Post by: Bedfordcrazy on January 02, 2010, 10:43:32 AM
Hi site members, as all the very long time members know, ben appears to have a good supply of fibreglass gear, I have'nt bought anything yet, I only learn't of his gear this morning, but will be fitting my van out with some of his kits shortly. This post is to see if anyone is in favor of ben having a shop on this site, a shop button in the main menu  left of screen. I don't know what is involved in doing it, I'm lucky I can turn on a pc, nether lone set up a site. Anyhows I am putting it out there for members to vote on, should we have a  shop for ben, and those wrecking beddy's and those with parts for sale. One stop shop ??? I vote YES....
Regards

This has been discussed previously and I believe the overwhelming feeling was that this is not what this forum is about. Any transactions between members remain solely as a private matter between those members especially when grievances arise as they inevitably do (in fact that is what initiated the previous discussion). It was agreed that anyone wanting to sell items were free to to do so using the 'For Sale' section however the forum itself was not to be involved or held responsible for any transactions that occurred there.

Also this forum is administered by Shane who does this entirely in his spare time (and is much appreciated by all) and I believe there would be more administrative overhead involved with this and that it would be unfair to expect Shane to have to spend more of his time overseeing and maintaining such a function.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

yes Rogue is 100% right,
if anyone wants fiberglass parts deal directly with the guys involved in building the fiberglass parts.
there were 2  suppliers on here,
just be sure 2 give the suppliers the exact item information u require and state how thick u want your fiberglass product 2 be, remember the more layers of fiberglass the stronger the item + the heavier.
thin items have a tendancy to crack n get damaged easier.
me myself would prefer a nice thick layer of gelcoat and 4 layers of 1. 1/2 oz fiberglass minimum.
its up to the individual, the more layers the more the part will cost, id rather quality not economy.

be sure 2 check all ur fiberglass products for air bubbles on the sharp surface corners and edges,
air bubbles are a pain in the A, and will break through in time.
caused by not rolling the first layer of glass into corners properly.
better find them earlier than later, ie/ after ur van or truck has been spraypainted.

believe me as im a retired fiberglasser.

George

The issue of Sponsoring, and Sales has been discussed, and some guidelines adopted.

People don't want lots of pop ups and adds here, and like the current informal feel.

If you have a question that you think might have been asked before, use the search button to look for it, then if you cant find the info ask away.
