Title: Original Bedford
Post by: outriding on December 24, 2009, 09:59:54 AM
I have been looking through the posts and galleries and I have come to a conclusion:
There is no original Bedford!
Every single one has been modified in one way or another. Is there any bone-stock survivor out there?  ??? ???

You'd be pretty lucky to find one now unless someone has had one stored in a barn somewhere for years.

Let's face it, the van in it's original form was crap and that coupled with the fact that you're lucky if you can find new stock parts anywhere anymore and that GM has disavowed any knowledge ever of it means pretty much that any van anywhere would have had to have been modified to some extent just to keep it on the road (or the side of the road whichever the case may be  ;) ).

why would you want a stock beddy, their potential was never reached by the factory.
but they did give us something good to work with.  ;D ;D

G'day
I have one in the shed that is still all original. I bought it many years ago and paid a lot of money for it.
When I get around to rebuilding it, it will be nowhere near original. That is because GM (and Ford) were/are lousy at building cars and commercial vehicles. and that is why you will never find a Bedford CF (or Transit) in original condition. Every owner has experienced the limitations of the vehicles and tried to improve it.

as far as i can tell mine was fully original except for the modified (larger) fuel tank.

i don't know if the 186 was the original but a engine swap or two does not count. or does it?

But no Australian CFs are original. Your dealers had the good sense not to import the slant four motor, and modified them before sale.
There are a few come up on TradeMe that appear to be original, if you don't count the side windows.

G'day

A mate took his HQ Holden one tonner in for a blue slip and they told him he would need an engineers report for it as the 186 wasn't a listed motor for that model. He went and bought a 308 V8 Commodore and swapped the motor over for less than the cost of an engineers report.
And no, it doesn't make sense.

Hey Blackbedford, thats surprising, I have a 186 red in my van, it was always there from the factory, thats how original it is. Mate I was just checking to see if you have had a chance to take those pics of your ford transit power steering rack for me ? you emailed me a few weeks ago to let me know you would take some for me, probably bad timing, silly season and all.
Regards

hey ben, do you have the holden bedford parts book in electronic form? is there somewhere that it can be downloaded?
The haynes book has buga all that relates to my van, but hopefully some of the holden related manual is relevant.

holden bedford parts manual is pretty useless also, its just a parts manual. it just has old part numbers in it that are no longer available. ok ok  some parts are still available. like ball joints and stuff.

mine cost me 50 bucks!!!

i wouldnt bother with it.
