Title: Diff replacement = to standard
Post by: Bas NZ on July 22, 2009, 09:14:18 PM
A simple but hard question, anyone have an idea on replacing the standard Bedford diff with something stronger with the same 4.5 - 5.4 ratio, I know the Transit diff is strong as they used them in drag cars.

Ben single, want to return it to the low ratio as I have the overdrive on the auto, this will double the low down power. Cheers  David what about the Transit, is Mk2 diff stronger our the same as the Mk 1 (question for us Kiwis ofcourse)

Ok wasen't sure how strong the standard bedford diff was, I have a 3.5 cresta in there at the moment. But would the fully worked 202 and Trimatic put to much pressure on the drive head axles? :-\

i think you will be pretty rite with that setup, they have big bearings wich i have just replaced in mine and really  chunky axles, my camper is a big machine, i tow my boat all over the place when im hunting and fishin, and cary a lot of gear, whe i go over the coast hunting i go for about 3 weeks and have a bloody lot of gear, i would be probably gettin up about 4-5 tons, never had a problem, my mate has a chev camper with cresta diff, it is a big machine and he puts it in club quater mile runs, never had a problem  stevo 8)

Ok cheers, I want to take the cresta out and put the standard Bedford drive head back in, I have overdirve on the Trimatic, so don't need the high ratio, the power is best spent down low.
Cheers

the cresta is weaker than the bedford, the cresta pinions are known to twist under heavy abuse
