Hi all,
It's been a while since I posted on here. I've been rather busy, first with work and then the usual rush to get the van back on the road before the Nationals, having been off the road for well over 12 months with the interior out. I'll put up a seperate post on the changesto the inside shortly.
Most of you are aware that one of the main reasons for pulling the inside out was to fit it out with Dynamat. If you want to see the product check out the swivel seats post in this section and you can see the product on the floor around the seat bases.
Well my trip down to Wellington was the first major venture out for the van since fitting Dynamat. I fitted it to the front section of the floor and up the firewall, the sides, rear and roof plus inside the front and side doors. Not all of the panels were fully covered but probably 75 - 80%. Well if you want to quieten down your van (road, engine and just general noise) this is the way to do it. I had heard that this product was good and now I can vouch for it and would recomend it to anyone. The van was reasonably quite before but now it's like being in a limo. Such a pleasure to drive, especially with the V8 for power, power steering for ease and now the Dynamat for comfort and quiet.
If you want to improve the ride of your van no end, then fit Dynamat to your panels before you fit the interior. You won't be dissapointed.

thanx for the info bro, I'm using acrylic bats on mine as everything is being done to a strict budget and I have a bag of batts left over in the garage, I cut in a 3mm ply roof panel around the sunroof in the cabin and will insulate it with some rubber backed foil I have lying around, looks similar to your stuff but is only 6mm thick, is there a preference to putting the foil facing out or in, it will be glued to the back of the panel to create a gap between panel and roof, however the van is matt black and will the foil facing back towards the metal cause extra heat on the panel and in turn paint fade? or should I have the rubber backing facing the metal ? its only a small area but unfortunately is in the cabin where the heat will be on hot days given theres a friggin overhead sunroof!

Hi Garry,
Do you have any pictures as to how much dynamat you used or be able to say how much you used and how close to the edges you went with it.
did you just do roof or roof, sides and floor.
Any info much apreciated as i have bought some to use in my van.
cheers Lewy

Hey Lewy,
I do have some pics (one to the front and one to the rear). I'll post them into my page in the gallery tonight if i get the chance. I used something like 5 boot kits and I think each boot kit is about 20 sq ft. I didn't do all the floor either. I have felt matting under the 20mm flooring so didn't bother with that. Just did the floor area from behind the front seats (where the floor starts to slope up) through to and up the fire wall.
Cheers,
Garry.

Thanks Garry for your info.
Your van is lookin gr8, it gives me the push to keep going just seeing how good yours is. I cant wait to just get mine just drivable........... maybe one day i will have some pics when its on the road and feelin better(both me and van) LOL
cheers Lewy

i discovered last week that a lot of my cabin noise is coming from my heater. i put a sleeping bag where my heater usualy is and man its like 40% quieter. even with my engine cover not sealed.
ben
-
if your going to line your firewall with sleeping bags ben dont forget to leave a gap for your clutch and brakes ;) ;D ;D
-
oh ok stevey thanks!! will consider that :)
-
how well would a good thick paint on sound deadner work if you apply many coats to the floor and walls?
-
i recon it would be the way to go bro!! i have a gelcoat gun im gunna buy brush on sound deadner and thin it down enough to spray it on. cheaper that way rather than buying the spray on stuff..
oh yeh i already have sound deadner on the floor and it works well. want to do underneath as well and firewall i supose the walls could have a quick coat also
ben
-
that is very good to hear ben... i cant afford the more expensive options...
yes underneath and on top for the floor. when you say fire wall are you just talking inside? i was just going to paint the engine bay with quick dry chassis black but if its safe i can give it a lick of deadner as well on the engine side?
ps... i didn't die... it rained for two/three months solid in geelong and their was no way i was spraying in that weather.... i just locked up the garage and saved some money for the two months....
i want my bedford but i didn't want it having rust issues early because i didn't have enough sense to know when not to work on it
-
I have deadner on the engine bay area, paint over top, then clear. works well as long as all the other holes are filled ofcourse
-
ok.. the chassis black enamel will stick to anything... i didn't think to coat up the fire wall and then paint over it...
you learn something new every day. thankyou.
-
Ok here is a a photo of the finished product, clear has been used over the top to allow easy cleaning.
-
hey bas..is that some kind of aftermaket heater unit u have there? top right of pic
-
No Marky, Eddie asked the same question, it's an air box VN Holden, dam motor won't run well with out it, had an ramflow pod / filter on it but coudn't get enough air in, runs with an electric supercharger a fan unit that receives the air and forces it out, its controled by a switch. think it runs at about 4psi, but makes a big difference to the power, will place a photo of it on here tomorrow. Don't need a heater as I use the LPG blow heater thats in the back of the van, just has a couple of tubes up to the front, flick a switch and the heater starts up. Bas
-
LPG blow heater? pics please!!!! ill have kids in the back and the original heater looks weak.
hang on is their a dedicated "heaters what have you done" thread?
-
get a heater out of one of those toyota custom vans, they have them under the seats or toyota surf in the centre consul, they work well, have fitted them into a few customers vans cheers stevo
