Have you had a wheel alignment done since you put the new wheels on and had all the work done to the brakes? If not then start there. Also get the wheel balance checked anyway at the same time. I've lost count of the number of times my wheels have supposedly been balanced when I've had new tyres fitted and have then had to make another trip back to the tyre outfit to get them redone properly.

Once you've done the basics then start looking elsewhere.

Probably not a silly idea to get your shocks checked as well if you haven't already replaced them.

I have had several different things causing vibration at speed.  Out of balance front wheels.  Universal joints chewing out. Worn tie rod ends.  The trickiest was worn lower ball joints----replaced the one that was obviously faulty but also had to replace the other that felt perfect.
Nothing on a Bedford is reliable--until it's modified

Are your mags multifit? If so, you must fit hubrings to align the centre of the wheel exactly to the hub. Vibration will occur otherwise. & don't get the poxy plastic ones, get metal ones made up. I had a set made up for about $120.

Hey all, thanks for all the help.
I got new wheel bearings the same time as I did all the other work. The mags are not multifit, and they have self locating nuts. I might look at getting my drums balanced. I need to get all my drums adjusted anyway. again thanks for all the feedback

someone had something similar a while ago and it ended up being their wheel nuts were too long so it appeared that they tightened but would leave a little slack
By memory it was fixed by putting another washer on each nut
good luck

if your wheel bearings are tensioned properly, check the balljoints by jacking the van and rocking the top and bottom of the tyre lightly to feel for play, if there is any more than buga all play, then they're likely your culprit.

Cant hurt to look into balancing the drums tho..

J.I.A.R...... I had this drama when i first bought my van, it also had jelly beans , ended up being simple spacers as the wheels seemed to tighten up on the drums, but didn't quite. I just then changed to discs, would be the best thing you could do..

some said they would/could balance the drum, " but had to be done on the vehicle"   $$$$$, sorry.

good luck ! go the disc!
Can I go play now...?

Just took the beddy motorhome for a spin upntue motorway and got her wound upto 90 kph and noticed a bit of a hammering or tapping sensation in the steering wheel.

Took the centre cover off but not movement at the retaining nut.

It stops when below 80 kph  , new front Pirelli steer tyres all balanced.

any ideas what it could be?

Does the steering rod have bushes in the steering tube?
Maybe they need tighting o r replacing?

Cheers

Ian

I tried looking on here for more info but couldnt find it, someone has had this problem before and had to replace both the coupling and the universial, see picture below
